THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Blu-ray Special Features Offers up a Look at the Visual Effects

     August 22, 2014

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hitting Blu-ray/DVD this week, Sony has been releasing snippets of the movie’s bonus features.  Several days ago, we got a look at the film’s makeup design and application for Electro (Jamie Foxx), and today there’s a clip from the featurette regarding the movie’s visual effects.  Visual effects supervisor Jerome Chen explains that Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has become a bit of a daredevil, so that allowed the team to play with Spider-Man’s leaps and falls.  Additionally, animation supervisor Dave Schaub points out that they wanted to incorporate different moves into Spider-Man’s arsenal like scrambling on his weblines while swinging.  These featurettes are fun because they’re a reminder that even if you don’t like the movie, the work that goes into making it can still be interesting.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

Finally saw this movie a couple days ago, it was surprisingly not terrible and definitely better than ASM1. The action scenes and choreography of Spider-Man swinging through NYC were definitely the best parts.

It was shit! The first film was better. Spiderman is over.

amazing work… too bad the script was mediocre.

  • DNAsplitter

The film had its up and down – but not as bad as people make it out to be – but the special effects are top notch. They did a fantastic job and IMO is probably the best looking of the Spider-Man films when it comes to the graphics.

It’s a shame that Spider-Man keeps suffering from the “too many cooks in the kitchen” as Sony’s higher up keep medeling with the films and are too busy looking 5 films ahead when they need to be focusing on the film at hand. Just let the hired talent run the show and the film would have turned out better and w greater financial success. All the deleted scenes prove that they had so many different story lines that htey couldn’t figure out as to which one to pick before the cameras started rolling.

You’re right – for all the film’s (MANY) faults, this movie was probably the closest any of them got to depicting Spider-Man as he is in the comics/cartoons. They really nailed the look and tone, and I loved the Spidey suit. The script was just too weak.

Gonna go through the bonus features on the Blu-ray this weekend, hopefully they’ll shed some light on what everyone was thinking when the movie was in production haha

Sony should hire Mathew Vaughn to pen the script as he knows how to make good comic book movies and importantly knows story structure

My God – are people actually saying (relatively ) nice things about ASM2 ???
    Say it ain’t so … !

It is true, tho. The effects were top notch.

… but why do I feel like they could totally do an Electro free edit, that focuses on Harry Osbourne, Gwen & Peter, instead? Uh well. Still rooting for ole Spidey, despite the Internet hubbub.

    • Lovecraftlives

Everything was bad, including the effects. Why the fuck is Goldberg talking about the blu ray features for this Shit film? Spiderman is dead for now!

  • Phoenix

Just like they did with the actual film marketing, Sony is releasing these clips/previews of the special features on the blu-ray so that most people won’t have to buy it in order to get the gist of it all.

I have only seen one other film (“The Apparition”) the ruined the film’s ending in the trailer. This just doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t understand why they feel compelled to show so much in the promos.

Is there a special effect to make this movie go away?

  • Johnson

I guess I’m among the 11 people in the world that enjoyed the movie.

Have to admit that the scenes are really well done…
