Disney has released a batch of new high-resolution Maleficent images from director Robert Stromberg’s upcoming fantasy-adventure film.  The pic tells the story of how the titular Sleeping Beauty villain turned antagonist, as Angelina Jolie plays a woman whose betrayal sets off a drive of revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides.  As we get closer to the pic’s release date, more and more visual effects shots are being completed.  Thus far this looks to be a very VFX-heavy outing, and these new Maleficent images give us a look at some of the CGI creatures—both big and small—that populate the fantasy tentpole.

With only a few episodes left, The CW series Arrow is pulling out all the stops, with character relationships, action, big reveals and heartache.  There is so much contained in each of the remaining episodes that the finale is sure to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.  In Episode 19, “The Man Under the Hood,” Deathstroke brings the battle to Team Arrow’s secret lair, sending one member to the hospital, and Oliver Queen must choose between his battle with Slade Wilson or his family.

During this recent interview to discuss the remaining episodes this season, executive producer/writer Andrew Kreisberg talked about how Laurel Lance will be taking Slade Wilson’s news about Oliver Queen, why she reacts differently from what’s expected, where Oliver and Laurel are at romantically, how long-running the ramifications of the Queens’ financial problems are, why this was the right episode to bring two of the characters from The Flash into the story, that Felicity plays a major part in the season finale, just how insane the finale fill be, and how the show will be changing and evolving in Season 3.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer Talks PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 and BEVERLY HILLS COP 4; Hopes to Shoot Both This Year

Blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer always has marquee projects in the works.  One of his biggest, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, was set to release its fifth entry—reportedly titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales—on July 10, 2015.  But the film was delayed so that directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) would have more time to work on the script with screenwriter Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3).  In a recent interview, Bruckheimer provided an update on the film saying he ‘”hopes to ‘get that going” by this fall or end of the year’ if everything lines up properly.”  I can’t imagine Disney wanting to let the franchise rest for long, especially since its latest entry, On Stranger Tides, raked in over a billion dollars worldwide.  Bruckheimer also said Johnny Depp is expected to come back (I don’t see how you make these movies without him) and “they’d be happy to have Keith Richards return.”

Frank Miller's Sin City A Dame to Kill For Storyboard Images Slice

In addition to some recently released live-action images, we’ve now got a look at some of Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For storyboard images used for the film.  To me, they look like panels from Miller’s source material, which makes sense considering his films are aimed at bringing the pages of his graphic novels to life.  Plenty of style on display here, but we’ll have to wait until later this summer to see if the sequel’s got the substance to match.  *FYI, the images could be considered NSFW depending on how uptight your workplace is.

First Trailer for Eli Roth’s Cannibalistic Horror Film THE GREEN INFERNO

The first The Green Inferno trailer has arrived.  The film marks Hostel filmmaker Eli Roth’s first directorial effort in six years and revolves around a group of American student activists who travel to the Amazon and are taken hostage by cannibals.  This trailer doesn’t get too deep into the plot, but it does evoke a rather unnerving tone as one of the characters finds herself, well, in a bind.  The film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and drew strong reactions from the audience, with many noting that they physically couldn’t stomach some of the scenes.  In short, expect Eli Roth’s signature level of gore applied to the practice of cannibalism.

Mondo has announced “Mike Mitchell x Marvel x Mondo”, which is a gallery of Marvel character portraits by artist Mike Mitchell.  “My love for Marvel Comics was an integral part of growing up. Not just the comics, but the action figures, video games and cartoons. My intention with this show was to take those characters out of their action-oriented world and give them a moment of silence to catch their breath,” said Mitchell in a press release.  “This has easily been the most ambitious project I’ve ever taken on, and it’s due in part to my love for their universe.”

Hit the jump to check out Mitchell’s Marvel prints for Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus, Black Cat, Bullseye, Luke Cage, and Mysterio.  The show will run from April 25th to May 17th.

IFC Films has released the Cold in July trailer and poster.  The film stars Michael C. Hall as an mild-mannered family man who kills a home intruder, but events take a bizarre twist when the intruder’s father (Sam Shepard) begins stalking around, and an even larger conspiracy is around the corner.  I saw the film at Sundance, and even though the tone is erratic, it’s also electrifying.  This trailer provides a good sense of the movie without giving too much away, or at least not so much that you can piece together the entire story.  This is an indie flick you should definitely keep on your radar.

Marvel Crossover Alert: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Will Feature X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Clip After the Credits [Updated]

An unexpected Marvel crossover is happening, though it’s not the kind everyone’s been hoping for.  It has been confirmed that a clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past will be play after the credits roll on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  This is not only weird because previews of upcoming movies usually come before the film and not after, but because X-Men and Spider-Man are owned by separate studios.  Yes, they’re both Marvel comics properties, but Fox retains the rights to all X-Men characters while Sony is in control of all things Spidey.  This has been the principal hurdle preventing possible crossovers between the Spider-Man/X-Men/Avengers universes, since the practicality of any “team-up” film would necessitate a split of profits between major studios.

Hit the jump for more on this odd move, and what it could mean for the future. [Update: A full explanation regarding why Sony agreed to promote Fox's Days of Future Past for free has surfaced.  Details after the jump.]

FX Renews THE AMERICANS for Season Three

FX has ordered a 13-episode third season of its excellent drama series The Americans.  While I enjoyed but wasn’t over-the-moon about its first season, the current second season of the period spy drama has turned the show into one of the very best on TV—and in this current Golden Age of Television, that’s saying something.  Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys star as sleeper KGB agents living in America as a married couple with two kids during the Reagan-fueled early 1980s.  While on the surface the show is a thrilling spy series, at its heart The Americans is really a portrait of a marriage as told through the incredibly complicated lives of two individuals, with Russell and Rhys regularly turning in brilliantly nuanced performances.  Suffice it to say, I am very much looking forward to The Americans season 3.

Antonio Banderas Says He Just Started Work on PUSS IN BOOTS 2

While some animation studios take a very calculated, conservative approach to its films, DreamWorks Animation is known for churning out as many as three feature films in the span of a year; the studio has become a well-oiled animation machine.  Though the Shrek franchise came to a close (maybe) with 2010’s Shrek Forever After, DreamWorks Animation kept the spirit of the series alive with the 2011 spinoff feature Puss in Boots.  The pic focused on the adorably feisty titular kitty, voiced by Antonio Banderas, and grossed $554.9 million worldwide.  We’ve known that the studio was developing a sequel to the fairy tale film, but extensive information on the follow-up has thus far failed to materialize.

However, when we recently spoke with Banderas in anticipation of the action sequel The Expendables 3, the actor revealed that he actually started work on Puss in Boots 2 a few days ago.  Hit the jump to read on.

35 Things to Know about THE EXPENDABLES 3 from Our Set Visit

Sylvester Stallone, Randy Couture, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham are walking through an abandoned building.  The hallways are torn apart.  Debris is everywhere.  The building looks like it’s in the middle of a war zone.  As the Expendables, clad in black clothing and carrying massive automatic weapons, take in their surroundings, they slowly make their way down a long hallway and carefully try to see what’s ahead.  As they reach a closed door they stop.  Stallone motions with his head to open the door and in an instant Couture kicks it open and they all rush in.

Last September, when director Patrick Hughes was filming The Expendables 3 in Sofia, Bulgaria, I was invited to visit the set with a few other reporters.  As a fan of The Expendables movies and especially the cast, I was excited to see them in action, and what I saw and learned on set made me think the third installment is going to be the best of the bunch.  Hit the jump for more.

Sylvester Stallone Talks Topping THE AVENGERS, the Cast, Using Actors’ “Baggage” as an Advantage, and More on the Set of THE EXPENDABLES 3

You might think after decades of making kick-ass movies, Sylvester Stallone might want to slow down.  You’d be wrong.  While some actors are lucky to have one franchise during their career, Stallone has again and again played roles that fans around the world have loved.  In his latest successful franchise, The Expendables, Stallone leads some of the biggest action stars on the planet and shows no signs of slowing down.

Last year when The Expendables 3 was filming in Bulgaria, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters.  During a break in filming, we were able to sit down with Stallone for an awesome interview.  He talked about the great additions to the cast, why he chose these particular actors, how he sees the actors’ “baggage” from their previous films as an advantage, why the script changed during production, the younger Expendables joining the film, why he wanted Mel Gibson for the villain, how he tried to get Jack Nicholson for a role, how happy he was to land Dan Bradley as his second unit director, why he wanted Patrick Hughes to direct the film, and so much more.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.
