You know how you will never ever tire of set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man? Good news: more tonight! The new set adds some novelty in by way of acrobatics, depicting a stuntman slinging his way high above the city streets. (Three cheers for practical effects!)
Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Denis Leary star in the Spider-Man reboot directed by Marc Webb. The Amazing Spider-Man opens on July 3, 2012. See the images after the jump.

codpiece?
OH NO! Retards AND Spam?! Come on Collider! Don’t let me down!
I deleted the spam comment, which pushed your comment down to the bottom now that it replies to something that doesn’t exist.
So, sorry? Or you’re welcome?
(Hmm. Can’t make this a reply to your comment, Collider Troll Killer. Your comment is a ghost.)
lol no need for apologies, sir. And THANK YOU for the quality control!
Hey Brendan, just wondering.. Should any of you at collider get to quiz anyone from this film, would it be possible to ask.. “Why does Spidey have mucky bollocks?” Is it a teenage angst thing?
I wonder how they get through filming without seemingly not noticing, unless its part of the design?
Thanks.
Just imagine the poor sfx person who has to go frame by frame and fix his crotch color.
His spider junk is tingling.
I really dont dig the latex look of the suit, but yeah, practical effects look cool enough.
Looks stupid here, but all that really matters is how it’ll actually look on camera; so we’ll see.
Miss Sam Raimi yet?
Yep, i missed him the second they announced the re-boot. Why does it look like spider-man has shit himself? but in the FRONT of his pants?
Yea. About as much as I miss having the flu.
About as much as i miss Joel Schumacher
Why have so many people crawled out of the woodwork since the re-boot was announced acting like the Raimi films were awful?, despite the FACT that Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best superhero movies ever made.
@Griz- LOL Classic!
@Jake- Raimi’s Spider-Man films: Cheesy humor, dated CGI, laughable Green Goblin suit, Not a single classic Spidey wise-crack, “sympathetic” villains, Mary Jane helplessly dangling from a skyscraper/bridge finale, and the list goes on….
^
Aside from the lack of wisecracks, everything you stated mirrors the essence conveyed in the comics and TV show, which, I thought, was what made Raimi’s films so great, no? I, for one, dont want to watch a realistic spider-man film, that’s what I go to C. Nolan is for!
And I have to agree with Jake, Spider-man 2 (aside from Maguire and Franco) was a pretty great film
“Aside from the lack of wisecracks, everything you stated mirrors the essence conveyed in the comics and TV show”
Um trick, perhaps you should actually READ my post before responding. I don’t recall Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman or Venom being portrayed in the comics/cartoon as “good guys who had no choice but to turn bad” (ie sympathetic). Was the Green Goblin ever shown as a man in a plastic suit?(Such a waste, Raimi could’ve just splashed Dafoe with green facepaint and he’d look just like the Goblin! Instead his face is obscured by an oversized helmet). Does every Spidey comic/cartoon episode end with Mary Jane having to be rescued? No. There is TWO things, I can honestly THANK Raimi for: 1) Kickstarting the “big budget/blockbuster/summer tentpole” superhero genre (along with X-Men), and 2) NOT making Spider-Man 4 (the Vultress?!) and hammering the nail in Spider-Man’s cinematic coffin (ala Schumacher w/ Batman & Robin).
‘Collider troll killer’- Mary Jane actually did get kidnapped quite alot in the comics, and the green goblin was portrayed like he was in the comics, he was never a straight up bad guy he was just a douche who was fighting the evil side inside of him- the goblin. And you’re moaning and bitching about how gay the Goblins costume looked but it would have looked 10x stupider if it was just a rubber Halloween costume like in the comics. and as for Doc Ock- i don’t give a shit what you say about him because except for The Joker he’s the greatest villain a comic book movie has ever had. The sandman was the most sympathetic but he was the most interesting villain since the T-1000 in terms of his powers, and Venom was just a pure asshole. But the problem is that Sony made raimi use a character he didn’t have any passion for in the last ten mins and as a result he turned out shit. and as for your earlier comments- Cheesy humor? well if by cheesy you mean funny then yeah. And dated CGI? in the first 1 yes but you can’t blame it, it was nearly ten years ago. But in spider-man 2 the CGI looks pretty damn good and in spider-man 3 the CGI is downright AMAZING. The scene where the sandman is created is jaw dropping and i don’t mean to sound gay but it was beautiful. and as for wisecracking- if you watch the movies Spidey does throw a few wisecracks every now and then just not as much as the comics. If you seriously think this re-boot looks amazing and is a good idea then you are indeed immensely retarded.
Actually, Mr. Troll, the comics and TV show DID have many characters who felt forced to become bad out of circumstance, but the ones portrayed in the films were not among them, hence Raimi channeling the spirit of the source material. One would need not look any further than at the examples of the Lizard or, perhaps a better example, Morbius. Now, this being said, Raimi maybe should NOT have repeated this character aside in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE, but nonethelesss, it worked with some characters (looking at you Doc Ock, not you Sandman..) In regards to Green Goblin and his ‘laughable’ costume, you don’t think a painted face is more laughable than a helmet? Anyway, nothing wrong with a little embellishment… On the point of Mary Jane, though, I do concede.. Having her play the damsel in distress in every movie is a little excessive, but hey, it was a major plot point..
@Jake-YOU are the retard for having predetermined notions about this reboot with only having a bunch of unofficial set photos to judge it by. I never said it would be “amazing” but I do have hope, as this is a chance to get the character right. The cast and crew have already proven themselves in the past, so I will continue to leave my mind wide open until the release of a trailer.
“The sandman was the most sympathetic but he was the most interesting villain since the T-1000 in terms of his powers”.
-Uh yea, because the Sandman WAS the T-1000 with liquid metal replaced with sand. Please. Mary Jane may have been kidnapped several times in the comics-but in context of HUNDREDS of issues, the plot device is hardly overbearing. However, after 3 movies following the SAME formula, it becomes overkill and shows the director/writer’s lack of creativity. I’ve also stated in the past: Regardless if Venom was “forced” on Raimi or not, a TALENTED filmmaker with an ARTISTIC VISION would find a way to make the character work to their liking. The whole “Venom was forced on Raimi!” is such a fucking cop-out, I’m tired of discussing it.
“if you watch the movies Spidey does throw a few wisecracks every now and then”
-Lol, are you referring to, “Your times’s up Gobby!”? Give me a break.
“The scene where the sandman is created is jaw dropping and i don’t mean to sound gay but it was beautiful.”
-I’ll admit that this scene (although extremely ridiculous), was well done. But you should be less concerned with “sounding gay” and more concerned with conducting a valid argument.
@Trick- It’s Mr. Troll KILLER to you, sir.
“the comics and TV show DID have many characters who felt forced to become bad out of circumstance, but the ones portrayed in the films were not among them”
-Thanks for unknowingly reinforcing my argument.
“in regards to Green Goblin and his ‘laughable’ costume, you don’t think a painted face is more laughable than a helmet?”
-I felt there was no need to get into detail on my previous post, but here it is: YOU don’t think Dafoe has the PERFECT gaunt facial structure to emulate the Green Goblin? I’d imagine the mix of makeup AND prosthetics would have made for a better Goblin on all accounts. (Which is odd it was neglected, considering Raimi’s B-movie background). Dafoe would appear much more frightening and would be able to emote much more as an actor. (His muffled threats to Spidey in that ridiculous helmet are hilarious.)
“Having her [MJ] play the damsel in distress in every movie is a little excessive, but hey, it was a major plot point..”
-Yes, a major LAZY, UNORIGINAL, PLAYED OUT plot point. Nuff said.
I don’t miss him. I don’t miss aunt may & i especially don’t miss the 88 gallons of spidey tears from all that damn crying.
The face still looks goofy as fuck. What’s up with the eyes? They should be way bigger.
You should read your comment to yourself out loud to get an idea of how petty it sounds.
LOL @Steven. My thoughts exactly my friend.
This practical stuff already looks and feels more real than the CGI stuff on the Raimi movies. Could have more punch and impact, imo. Of course photos like these are shot from angles the real cameras aren’t seeing so they are lighted all wrong and I don’t get the look-at-me crotch either.
Digging the practical stuff though, and I’m not a CGI hater at all.
I’d guess that the codpiece is going to be CG’d out… that suit is so skintight that its probably impossible to not have a bulge.
Who knows, maybe not though.
The codpiece is there to distract enemies and keep them off balance.
You’d think the studio would’ve beefed up security by now. Or release a teaser. Stop giving the trolls so many out-of-context pics to whine about.
What’s with the black sh!t on his penile area?
The stuntman must be like “WIIII IM SPIDEY” That’s what i would do lol
Dear Julie Taymor, how did you so thoroughly mess up a Spider-man swinging on cables. Sincerely, that stunt guy.
Hey its not fake, have to love that.
I have to chip in here because I also don’t get why everyone is talking about Raimi’s Spidey films as if they’re at ‘Batman and Robin’ level or something, and yet they were actually (the first two, at least) great films! Sure, the CGI has aged BADLY, but IMO they haven’t lost their entertainment value. People complain a lot about deviations from the source material, but if you judge them on their merits as bodies of work, in and of themselves, without nitpicking what SHOULD and COULD have been, I think the material was handled well! I was a fan of Raimi’s Spider-Man films then, and I’m still a fan now. The third one, of course, as everyone knows was a mess because they were trying to do too many things at once, but when the story was focused, as with the first two, I think they did a great job! To the harsh critics, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this because I feel you can’t justifiably lambast Raimi’s films like they were garbage when they were not.
As for this remake? I don’t know– I’m gonna have to see some actual footage first before I’ve made up my mind about this; I’m not yet sure how I feel. I am, however, very happy with all the casting choices! Fantastic actors and actresses abound! Practical effects definitely can’t hurt either and they always tend to hold out better over time than CGI. Oh, and yeah– what the hell IS that stain on Spidey’s crotch in these pics?
Wait, no I don’t actually mean why *everyone* is bashing Raimi’s films, since there are some fellow defenders in this thread, but they have been getting a lot of hate lately and not just on Collider.
Oh give me break; reboot supporters have gotten just much hate as Raimi fans if not more!
Speaking as a fan of Raimi’s movies, I think people would be more appreciative of his movies if the changes he made where allot smaller. Changing Spidey’s web shooters from mechanical to organic is one thing, but drastically altering the personalities of almost all the characters is another…! Take MJ and Gwen for example. In the comics MJ was a strong and sexy confident young woman, who liked to have a good time and hid her emotions. In the movies MJ is hopelessly insecure, bitchy, a little self centered, whiney, and (as the Nostalgic Critic pointed out) is bit of a dumb ass. Then there is Gwen. Gwen was of the most crucial characters in the comics. Gwen was not only an intelligent young science prodigy; she was also Peter’s first true love. In the movies, not only was Gwen a pointless character, but she was also a dumb blond who flirts with Peter once or twice.
As a Raimi fan, I do enjoy all three movies. But I am mature enough to except that there are tons of faults with his movies and that these faults can easily be approved upon.
I love the effort they’re doing to avoid an ALL-CGI movie.
I have to wait for the first trailer to see how all this plays out.
I can’t judge something that has friggin SUSPENSION CABLES sticking out of it’s back!
It looks just like the other spider-man movies…bring Tobey back!!!
Awful! Spiderman with golden shoes ?
Marc Webb! I hate you!
Did I say that I hate Marc Webb ? No ? Ok. I’ll say it again:
Marc Webb! I hate you! ^^
Here’s my thoughts on the Raimi hate/support. Its not that I hate Raimi but he just didn’t capture the Spider-Man that I grew up with and love. Raimi and Maguire were great at capturing the 60′s Spider-Man comics and cartoon but they were horrible at capturing the character he evolved into from the 70′s on.
I want a Spider-Man that is super charismatic and believable as a scientist and jokester. Those are the 3 characteristics Spider-Man is built on, yet despairingly lacking in Raimi’s films. Don’t even get me started on MJ.
I always gripe and moan about Raimi’s films but in the end I did see them and I do own them. I watch them quite regularly. They are enjoyable for what they are, but as a fanboy I feel they lack in representing the true characters they are supposed to.
I welcome the new talent and crew to give it their best shot. I already think the casting is head and shoulders above the previous troop.
As for these shots, the action looks great. The suit looks horrible. Granted they are WIP shots. I’d love to see more full marketing shots.
I hope they do well because I think Andrew Garfield is awesome, but these pictures do look….odd. The colors just seem off to me and well, I have to agree with everyone about the disturbing black crotch. Don’t understand why that would be pretty much the only think in black. They should make it blend in with the rest of the suit.
its stunt leave andrew alone a real trained actor
what you dont want young actor as spider man
If anything, it will be better than the musical.
I still feel it’s WAY too soon for a reboot.
Of course this is Hollwood corporations we’re talking about, stupid and uncreative to the last cent. They care more about international $$$$$$ than anything else. Piss on us here at home if we don’t make a film lots of $$$$$ domestically. They make more overseas now it seems.
I won’t go see this and hope many others don’t, causing it to have a weak debut. It would send a message to Hwood we’re not taking their crap anymore, but the sheeps will line up, because that’s what they do best.
Spiderman 4 would’ve been nice to see. Oh well……
I get it now. They are making a parody on Spiderman. It makes sense now…^^
