Trailer for THE ART OF GETTING BY Starring Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts; Plus 2 New Images

by     Posted 3 years ago

Fox Searchlight has released the trailer for the coming-of-age drama The Art of Getting By (formerly titled Homework).  I caught the film at Sundance and kind of loathed the hell out of it, but maybe you like cloying movies with underdeveloped characters whining about how hard life is for white upper-class teenagers living in New York City.  If you enjoy movies like that, you will love The Art of Getting By.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer plus two new images from the film.  The Art of Getting By also stars Michael Angarano, Rita Wilson, and Blair Underwood.  The film opens in limited release on June 17th.

Here’s the trailer (via MTV):

Here’s the official synopsis for The Art of Getting By:

THE ART OF GETTING BY stars Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who’s made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, who is befriended by Sally (Emma Roberts – Scream 4), a beautiful and complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.

Yeah this looks kind of meh. I am liking Emma Roberts more and more though.
I am getting annoyed of the cliche of hot girls wanting to hang out with these losers. COME ON!!!!!

“I caught the film at Sundance and kind of loathed the hell out of it,” That doesn’t surprise me. What movies don’t you hate Matt? Do you even like movies? I think you just like watching movies so you can tell everyone how much they suck and how amazing you are for hating them.

I like Emma Roberts. I like that she is willing to continue to make so many indie films.

But this sort of looks like It’s Kind of a Funny Story imo.

God a movie about parsons students …..

The new title is very funny though. Unintentionally I bet.

This movie is the personification of “The Art of Getting By”. It’s no more original a movie than “Fast & the Furious 5″ or “That Remake of Thats 80s Movie You Really Liked”. The flick doesn’t have an original bone in it’s 84 minute running time but since it’s been well put together by the ICTT (Indie Cred Think Tank) people defend it as ART.

Hence- The ART of Getting By.

I bet to see this movie quoted A LOT on Facebook over the next year.

And cue yet another manic-pixie-dream-girl! Film looks interesting only because Freddy Highmore no longer looks 10. Hopefully he’s got some good films lined up.

Some well-respected publications liked this movie.

But yeah. nothing special from the looks of it. Storyline nor music. The love story i don’t know who would get into. I like the unpopular guy getting the girl, but just visually they don’t look good together. Like all male teenagers, his head has yet to catch up with the size of his body. Shallow comment, sure. but still bothersome.

People who aren’t poor have problems too, Matt. To restate the obvious, “Money doesn’t buy you happiness.” But I’m sure you already knew that.

Just what we need rich kids not doing anything and thinking it’s cool and deep.

    Something unexpected surprise–

I’m really excited for this film. I love Emma Roberts, and it looks like she plays a great character…hope it lives up to the trailer.

Also, this trailer had so much good music! Can anybody help me ID the song that’s playing when they’re dancing? I loved it. The only song I already knew was “Trial of the Century” by French Kicks, which plays over the second half of the trailer, but all the other songs were really cool….I’ll probably end up buying this soundtrack.
