Apparently today is the day that Marvel rumors get confirmed.  We just heard that Bradley Cooper is in early talks to voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy, and now THR has confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen is in final negotiations to portray Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon’s sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron.  We previously heard that Saoirse Ronan was eyed for the Scarlet Witch role, but when she apparently passed, Marvel moved on to Olsen.  Now it appears that the Martha Marcy May Marlene actress’ deal is nearly done, and she will in all likelihood be playing Scarlet Witch opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson as brother Quicksilver in the Avengers follow-up.  Hit the jump for more.

elizabeth-olsen-the-avengers-2-age-of-ultronKick-Ass 2 star Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s deal isn’t yet closed, but he’s been talking pretty openly about joining the Marvel universe as of late.  He and Olsen just finished working together on Warner Bros.’ Godzilla, so should they team up in Age of Ultron they will already have a rapport.  Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are presumed to be the two biggest additions to the Avengers team in the sequel, which will find the heroes fending off the angry robot Ultron.  Scarlet Witch, interestingly enough, will bring more magic into the equation for the Marvel superheroes, as her powers include the ability to affect certain outcomes by altering probabilities.

Olsen will be seen later this year in the Beat poet drama Kill Your Darlings and as the female lead in Spike Lee’s Oldboy opposite Josh Brolin.  Filming on Avengers 2 will begin the first week of March in anticipation of a May 1, 2015 release date.

she’s a good choice but it will be weird to see them as twins right after playing lovers in godzilla

Not so weird if you read the Ultimate line of marvel comics.

Who knew after surviving Godzilla, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson would magically get super powers?

pity they didn’t choose Alyson Hannigan for the role… she proved she could easily pull it off with her role as Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

She’s nearly 40, no offence to her, she looks good for her age but marvel will have wanted to get someone that can appear in a number of sequels and not be pushing 50.

      • Sinjun

and she still would be a better Scarlet witch

      • Polarboy

Well that’s highly debatable, the step up from TV to film is a big one, and I for one wasn’t entirely convinced by her cast mate Cobie Smulders in the Avengers. Besides all that, because admittedly its a bit unfair to tar her with the TV actor brush, her age does make it impractical for them to employ her, the casting sheet probably had early to mid twenties on it, ditto for the one for Pietro, if you are too old for what they want, you are just too old, it doesn’t matter about anything else.

each of the actresses involved started in TV Elizabeth Olsen wouldn’t be a bad Scarlet Witch btw i just think Alyson Hannigan would do a great job at it. plus to be fair to Cobie Smulders… Hill is a pain in the rear as a character in the comics and so she kind of nailed it in the Avengers.

there is another reason to choose Allyson Hannigan. choose her and then bring both Speed and Wiccan into the marvel movies and you can do the Young Avengers. with Ant-Man coming out and if they use Scott Lang as well as Pym you might have access to Stature. then it’s a matter of getting Iron Lad (i don’t know if they have access to Kang they should but it’s touchy.. if not use the kid from IM3 they change things so much anyway) Hulkling is a challange but they could do it Skrulls haven’t appeared yet but that isn’t a problem. and then finally the female Hawkeye (works a little better if hawkeye dies but if not they could always give her a new nickname or the same one with her not knowing he used the callsign)

Excruciating to watch in every way. So disappointed. Ruth Wilson would have nailed it.

How weird that there is going to be 2 different Kick-Ass actors both playing Quicksilver… One in Xmen, another in Avengers… LOL

I’ve always regarded the Scarlet Witch and her brother as second (if not third) tier superheroes. They seem more like one of the dozens of X-Men rather than stand-alone figures. I’m a bit surprised Marvel decided to throw them into the mix before Ant-man/Giant Man. I also see a problem with having too many Avengers. Screen time for each character will be reduced to four minutes.
