Marvel Releases Final Concept Art from THE AVENGERS

     July 24, 2011

Marvel has released the final banner from its collection of exclusive Comic-Con concept art posters for The Avengers. On top of the art being pretty stellar, it’s really just nice to see the whole gang together on one sheet. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers hits theaters next summer on May 4th. Hit the jump to check out the final banner and each individual poster. Click here for all of our previous coverage of The Avengers.

Here is the completed banner followed by the individual character posters [from Marvel]:

For the sake of having everything in one place, here are the concept art posters for Captain American and Iron Man that we posted a few days ago:

Finally, here is The Avengers production announcement which features the relevant cast/plot info:

Robert Downey, Jr. (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) as Thor, Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (“Thor,” “The Hurt Locker”) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are Alright”) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (“Iron Man 2″) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (“Iron Man,” “Thor”) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″) as Nick Fury.  Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, “Marvel’s The Avengers” brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston (“Wallander”) and Stellan Skarsgård (“Angels & Demons,” “Mamma Mia!”) who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature “Thor.”

THE PERFECT HULK!!!! I am offically sold! I hope the cgi is this exact design because if it is it could destroy all other Hulk interpretations and maybe even be the best thing about the Avengers. Just WOW!

    • Cartouche

Ok so COLLIDER will have the concept art for the AVENGERS but no review for CAPTAIN AMERICA.
Am I missing something here? Way to be out in front of the competition.
I guess those COMIC-CON interviews with the guy who delivered coffee to the set of THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN really need to get done.
Just kind of weird there is no mention of CAPTAIN and there has been so much hype around him, why no love??

Any who.. Sulk, that the HULK may end up being the best part of the AVENGERS. I hope the motion capture turns out like RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. If so the Hulk could steal the show

      • Ruprect

There was a Cap review earlier. It was hacky and filled with spoilers. You missed nothing.

      • Tim D

Good point, Collider seems to have dropped the ball on a Cap review, can’t find it under the reviews section or anywhere on the site. Not sure where Collider is based, But I thought it might be a foreign site/release date issue, but that explanation did not pan out. Get your shit together Collider.

Oh, and don’t worry about Ruprect’s misinformed opinion, the movie was great (saw it 2x, 3D was unimpressive), and you can look to Rottentomatoes or Metacritic if you don’t believe me – they are generally better indicia of quality than some troll’s keyboard.

      • Tim D

On a second reading, seems that I owe Ruprect apologies. Thought his comment was referring to the movie, not the review. Still can’t find that Cap review though.

      • Cartouche

Ruprecht – Thanks for the info but I looked everywhere man and I still cant find it. But I am glad I missed it from the sound of it..

Tim D.. I did see it man and it was fricking awesome. I m like you I would rather not take the word of some fanboy geek who has too much time on his hand to tear apart every piece of information a movie has to offer. I like to see and decide for myself.
I was so hyped to read about thiss 2hr bundle of spectacularness but there was jack shit!! As chris carter would say “COME ON MAN”!!

I am thinking of checking elsewhere because they did drop the ball like you said. This movie was just fricking awesome plain and simple and its getting no love..Shit we seen plenty of GREEN LANTERN stuff for crying out loud

2D looked Great I am beginning to lose what little interest I had in 3D mainly because its not enhancing the movie..

I hate AVATAR but I will give it the due it deserves because it was really a visual masterpiece (story SUCKED)..

      • Ruprect

Oops! It is I who should apologize. The review I was thinking of was the one on, not Collider.

      • Ruprect

Oh …. and to Tim D,
Apology accepted. I was indeed talking about the review and not the movie itself. Still have not seen it and circumstances are keeping me from seeing it for another week or so. That was why I was upset at the review. Two sentences in and there is a big whopper of a spoiler. After I shouted “BASTARDS!”, I lightly skim down a few sentences and find another HUGE one involving one of the major co-stars ultimate fate. Very annoying.
Almost as annoying as being called “some fanboy geek” and a “troll” when, in fact, the complete opposite is closer to the truth. :)

      • Cartouche

My Bad Ruprect – I wasnt calling you a FANBOY GEEK :

I was trying to say I am tired of these “purists”, if you will, tearing apart movies because it doesnt live and die by the comic.

Take a movie for what it is.. I hope you get to see CAPTAIN AMERICA soon its definitely a must see.

    • DJ

they used lou ferrignos face the original hulk

      • Richard of Norway

        No they didn’t, that’s Mark Ruffalo’s face.

  • Harry

Pretty cool, I hope the HULK retains the same design as in The Incredible Hulk cuz the art looks a little bit different. Whatever I’m fuckin excited either way.

Anyone else not interested in this movie?

    • dannyboy3030

      Just you aces. Just you.

    • Fugly

Don’t worry, Avengers won’t steal any thunder from your Nolan fangasm.

    • Richard of Norway

So far, I’m with you. Not interested until I see a trailer or something that will convince me this was a good idea. But I admit: The art looks very cool.

      • Cartouche

Watch CAPTAIN AMERICA all the way through the credits and there is a very short preview of the AVENGERS.

The trailer was really good but didnt show much and was rapidly edited but it looks to be a grand Movie.

THOR has new digs which look kind of cool and so doe CAP.

Two thoughts popped into my head after seeing the AVENGERS trailer…

        1) Although still very cool Robert Downey Jr. Looks OLD compared to the rest of the class
) Samuel L. Jackson just doesnt seem to fit in this universe.

    • tenrec87

The casting of Jeremy Renner has made me quite a bit less interested in this movie.

      • Really

        Please clarify.

He was amazing in Hurt locker and the Town, even in, Dahmer which was sold as a throwaway Biopic-Thriller, he shows great potential.

I can’t wait for this or Ghost Protocol.

  • Brandon Avery

Where’s Black Panther, Wasp, and Ant Man/Giant Man???

I can understand Black Panther not being there since he isn’t a part of the first 5 (even though, he was mentioned at the end of Iron Man 2 briefly).

Everything looks great! I hope the CGI HULK is exactly the same as the 2008 Edward Norton film for continuity.

I want ANT MAN and wasp.

    • james

When was black panther mentioned? I like the character but must of missed it.

      • Brandon Avery

At the end of IM2 when they were in the bunker. As Jackson has the folders on the table you can see certain spots on a map on some video board behind them. Supposedly this is where all the team is located. There is one marker somewhere in Africa…

  • Oskino

Even though it will be impressive to see them all come together on the big screen, this movie is gonna be a disaster!! To much involved, to many characters, to high of expectations, and I’m sure not enough running time… 2012 will belong to the Dark Knight.

    • Carlos A. (Colombia)

      • Carmichael

        Hahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Indeed.

      • theShogunate

Yeah. That’s totally what happened to Avatar!

    • Richard of Norway

I guess I’m the only one who agrees with you. We’ll have to wait and see.

  • Warpcrafter

I’m counting the minutes until the midnight showing. It’s gonna be a looooonnnnnggggg winter…

    • anon

Don’t worry, it’ll be a long winter watching Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk on DVD. Could be worse.

100% excited for The Avengers, but is anyone else worried they are leaving out elements from The Incredible Hulk? Everyone else who starred in a solo movie has little glimpses of their movie(s) as the background, except the Hulk. No Betty, no Abomination, no Ross, etc. I wonder if this is to distance the character from the whole “Norton getting replaced” controversy.

Also, I’m happy they are going with Ruffalo. Norton is a jackass and screwed himself out the job with his behavior during TIH’s release.

    • Richard of Norway

I generally love Norton but agree with you on this. And I think Ruffalo will make a better Hulk. Wish he were cast in TIH back in the day. Hopefully he’ll get a chance for his own film after Avengers. I would much rather see that than Avengers in fact.

  • imperial merv

I don’t get it; if this is avengers then why does iron man have a circular arc reactor?

And I really hope they’re using similar CG for hulk as edward nortons, this is meant to be a continuation.

  • Chris Etrata

A new enemy called THE IMPASSE has arrived that could cause both political and economic instability all over the world. No one in the government is taking any serious action to stop it despite warnings. Nick Fury decided to form a team to stop THE IMPASSE because if it isn’t gone by 8 days, SHIELD will have to disband causing Nick Fury to lose his job due to economic issues. He choose 4 heroes to stop THE IMPASSE that made up the Avengers. If THE IMPASSE isn’t stopped, everyone will lose faith in Captain America, Thor will have to go back to his world, Stark Industries will have to shut down, and The Hulk will have effectively become a stateless person. These 4 heroes will have to come up with a plan to stop THE IMPASSE before something worse codenamed DEFAULT consumes us all.

  • Mansoor

    For those who don’t know.
Marvel used the same technology as Avatar to create hulk so he looks exactly like Mark Ruffalo.

To those who already know don’t reply.

  • occhile1984

A new enemcy called “THE ECONOMY” has arrived. the world is suffering, and it’s up to Tony Stark and the rest of the Avengers to bail us out and save us. CHA-CHING!!!

  • Imani

I love the Hulk’s face! So excited for the movie!

  • ozzie

    i smell a Phantom Menace ….

replacing Pym and Wasp with Hawkeye and Black Widow also sucks on a very large level.

    • Greedo’s Blood

Agreed. Instead we have a woman who can’t act, let alone do a russian accent, and a guy who is already attached to two other major franchiese and isn’t even wearing a mask. I more excited for Maria Hill than Hawkeye, and I love Hawkeye.

  • sense 11

I cant hide it, I’m fucking stoked about this movie. This superhero match up is unprecedented. Even if it only half works its still going to be awesome.

  • Terry

It was brilliant how for each character they put in the back ground their history. Just plane awesome.
I saw CA, very very good. And I saw the trailer for the Avengers at the end also. IT IS GOING TO FUCKING ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Francisco

OMG I will finally have to sleep on the road to watch the premier!!!!

Just a few things i noticed from the concept art…could just be looking into things too much, haha

    1. doesnt it look like the hulk is chasing Iron Man? i’ve heard rumors of hulkbuster armor being in the movie and thus fitting image placement(especially since Bruce looks a little angry/monster like)

    2. at the end of Iron Man 2 didn’t he have a Triangular chest piece (i.e. after creating the new element)…i understand that the imagery is showing the background for each character, therefor they may be waiting to show the new armor until the film (this is more of a reference to older Iron Man)

    3. ppl have forgotten to mention how awesome the Quinjet and Helicarrier look. they aren’t your old-school cartoon looking vehicles.

    4. also interesting angle and placement of Hawkeye “aiming” towards Thor…just like the easteregg in the actual Thor movie (remember Thor is fighting the huge dude in the rain outside the compund where his hammer is, Hawkeye is sniping him from the crane’s bucket seat)

anyways, can’t wait for the movie to release.

    word to yo motha’s

  • steven

Iceman. You are right about starks triangular arc reacter. I don’t see why the concept art doesn’t have the triangle piece but rest assureed he will in the movie because in the sneak peak you see stark in the outfit and it is the triangle not the circle so hopefully it does stay that way. Don’t know why why they have the circle in the concept art tho but we’ll see I guess

The Avengers… the comic book version of The Expendables
