First Trailer and New Poster for THE BEAVER Starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin, and Jennifer Lawrence

Yesterday, we reported on the first official image and synopsis for Jodie Foster’s upcoming film, The Beaver. Now, Summit Entertainment has released the first trailer for the film, which stars Mel Gibson as a man who starts to treat a beaver hand puppet as a living creature after he begins to suffer from depression.  The film has been the center of a lot of debate due to Gibson’s recent behavior.  A lot of people have been wondering if Summit would bench the film even longer, or if they’d release it as is.  But with Summit setting a spring 2011 release date, it looks like we’ll all get to see Gibson’s latest quite soon.  Of course the big question is, will Gibson’s controversial antics cause moviegoers to avoid his movies, or will they forgive and forget?

The Beaver also stars Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone).  You can watch the trailer and read a plot synopsis for the film after the jump.

You can watch the trailer in HD over at Apple.

    So… if I go to see this movie… am I a racist?

I think it’s best to assume that all movie stars might disappoint you as real people. Appreciate them for their work and leave the interest in their private lives for the gossip sites. Gibson is clearly unstable and troubled, but he’s a fine actor; this film looks very promising, and it was actually something of a relief to see some actual footage from it after all these months of speculation.

If you see a Polanski film does that make you a pedophile??

You actually bring up a good point. I mean, for all of Gibson’s faults, he never f’ing RAPED anybody. Polanski got a standing ovation via satellite at the Oscars for The Pianist, yet Gibson is a pariah for being a drunk, foul-mouthed moron.

Oh Hollywood, you’re so wacky sometimes.

I dunno, I saw Powder does that make me a child molester?

You know, for all of Gibson’s deplorable recent behavior, this movie looks quite fantastic, and will get my support.

The way he says “He’s gone” at 1:44 sounded to me like a dead-on impression of Michael Caine. lol

‘Should have been called: Men Who Hate Women, & The Closted Lesbians Who Love Them’ instead of ‘Beaver’! No wonder Jodie Foster was so quick to defend ‘Moral Mel’! I for one have always been sick of his hating anti-Semitic, misogynistic, racist, and homophobic rants, not to mention his religious moralizing which has gotten increasingly worse over the years. This a guy who (like his father) left the Catholic Church (way too liberal since Vatican II) to found his own religion, hired a Priest who left the church for similar reasons and makes his whole family attend masses where women and girls have to be veiled and covered from head to foot (burkas)ans spends his life drinking, drugging and cheating on his wife finally leaving her for his mistress with whom he has a child beats her and shakes the baby and tells her he hopes she is “Raped by a pack of ni____s!” not gang… not group… PACK! (I wonder what Danny Glover & Chris Rock must be thinking) Also while his mistress is pregnant we hear that he gets the boot from the hooker he has been cheating with on both his mistress and wife for wanting ‘too violent sex’. All of this while he is still married. I am so sickened by this man I can’t even watch and of his movies any more and I won’t waste my money supporting him in this one. Tell this woman-beating anti-Semite to move to Saudi Arabia or Iran where he would be right at home. Never forget that his father moved to Australia to keep both his sons out of Vietnam. But when Mel came of age he was in no hurry to return to America and sign up. So Mel makes up for it by making lots of war movies with him as the hero culminating with a film called: ‘We were Soldiers’ but might better have been titled ‘We Were Actors’. This John Wayne, Ronald Reagan Hollywood studio lot warrior is like all bullies: A big coward! Jodie Foster has one thing in common with ‘Moral Mel’: They both like to cheat on their wives and divorce them. That is one fucked up Hollywood friendship!

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

I don’t know why you felt you had to type out in ‘Gibsonesque’ rant form what most people have heard already.

You make judgements on Jodie Foster without foundation and you reveal yourself as a bit of a homophobe, as you are implying lesbians will always defend women hating men.

I was as shocked as anyone else by Gibson’s behaviour, as I quite liked the guy. It’s like when you thought you knew someone and it turns out, after all, it’s just an act. (pun intended)

The only reason I won’t see this is that it is not my kind of movie.

It’s a nice premise, but I don’t watch movies with Beavers in them.

There’s a tonne of failed fathers out there, maybe they should watch this and take up a persona of an animal and get back to their families this way. LOL!

    GO BEAVERS!
