As the only new wide release last weekend, The Best Man Holiday was a surprise hit with a $30 million opening weekend, nearly matching the $34 million total box office of the 1999 original The Best Man.  Universal is eager to develop a sequel, and so has entered negotations with Malcolm D. Lee to write, direct, and produce another Best Man movie.

Deadline believes Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Harold Perrineau, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa are not locked in for a second sequel option.  Should the ensemble cast seeks a pay raise, Universal will find it difficult to keep the budget as low as the $17 million Holiday.  It is expected that the turnaround much quicker than 14 years for this sequel.
