A new image from Tony Gilroy‘s The Bourne Legacy has gone online.  We had previously seen set photos of co-star Rachel Weisz, but this is the first official image of Weisz’ mysterious character, Marta, and we see her standing next to the new Jason Bourne (Jeremy Renner).  Wesiz is tight-lipped about her character details, telling EW “What am I allowed to say? I think almost nothing at all.”  I didn’t really think the veil of super-secrecy extended to a Bourne movie (it’s not like she’s playing a character we already know from some other medium), but perhaps she has a more complex role than simply a love-interest who gets swept up in Bourne’s intrigue (a la Franke Potente in The Bourne Identity).

Hit the jump to check out the image.  The film also stars Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach, Scott Glenn, Corey Stoll and Donna Murphy.  The Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Bourne Legacy:

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy.  The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

  1. I believe his character is called AAron Cross, another ex-soldier recruited for Treadstone who gets reactivated.
Don’t go all SyFy Blastr on us by not researching before you print!

  2. Dude, he’s not the new Jason Bourne! Are you crazy? No wait, I already know, you are. Burn in hell Goldiberg, you suck.

  3. If he’s not supposed to be Bourne, then why is he wearing Bourne’s clothes?

Movie studios are pathetic. No, no, no.

    • Umm he’s not wearing Bourne’s clothes. Those are different clothing. Go back and watch the movies again smart one

  4. I can’t tell if Goldmember’s being sarcastic or what, but we ALL know Jeremy Rener is not playing Jason Bourne. Excellent journalism right there.

  5. Man, Jeremy Renner is on a roll!! Can’t wait to see this, it comes out before my B-Day!! I really want that jacket. ^_^

  6. Everyone saying “He’s NOT playing Bourne!” kind of sums up the problem with this movie. The title of the movie is pretty dishonest, they are calling it The BOURNE Legacy, but there’s no Bourne character in it. The average Joe who doesn’t follow movie news is just going to go in assuming Renner is taking over the role. Kind of a bait and switch tactic. It’s like doing a Bond movie that’s all about Felix Leiter, or a Batman movie that follows the adventures of Robin.

    • You might want to look up the word “legacy” … the movie is titled quite well.

I saw the trailer for this the other day when I was trying not to cut my wrists watching Battleship. It looks pretty decent … the last films were decent and Jeremy Renner is a very capable actor.

    • I believe the ‘Bourne’ in the title is like a code word post Jason meaning another TREADSTONE soldier had surfaced. Stop being so literal. The only thing is, I thought Jason Bourne/David Webb was the last Treadstone recruits still alive. Could be wrong but I thought that wear referenced in the second film.

    • It’s called “The Bourne LEGACY”. Legacy means carrying on or dealing with something for someone of the past. Aaron Cross is probably facing similar problems as Jason Bourne faced when he was on the run.
