A new trailer for The Bourne Legacy has gone online. Rather than just a reboot, this feels like a direct sequel with Jason Bourne’s actions from the previous films creating the conflict for the new movie.  This time around, a government task force led by Edward Norton‘s character is assassinating all their genetically-modified assets to prevent another Bourne situation.  However, one member of the program (Jeremy Renner) manages to escape with a scientist (Rachel Weisz), and the two go on the run for their lives.  There are some cool stunts in the trailer, but I want to see more of the characters’ personalities rather than just the conspiracy/chase angle.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, and Oscar IsaacThe Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Bourne Legacy:

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy.  The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Looks good. Jeremy Renner can’t miss these days, so I’m looking forward to it.

  • Steve m

Takes place in the same time frame as Bourne 3? ( Bourne is in manhattan bit)

    • Singularity

It would be a cool twist if some of the plot was concurrent to the events of Ultimatum, perhaps focusing on a parallel operation with this other asset.

      • Jamesy

That would be AWSOME! cool twist indeed, would be cool to see a possible Matt Damon cameo, or not…might be a bit too “cheesy”? But with not recasting Bourne it does leave it open for a possible Renner vs Bourne fight fest! Agree 100% with Farzan.

I think this is among the so much vital info for me. And i’m satisfied reading your article. However wanna statement on few basic things, The site taste is perfect, the articles is actually great : D. Excellent job, cheers

  • David

So, is there a possibility of Matt Damon having a cameo?

  • ken

wohooo! Metro Manila (Philippines) scenes! that’s my home city!!! :D

  • rod

    looks incredible

  • Jaye

Not in a bad way, but this looks like Hawkeye: The Bourne Legacy to me. It looks like fun

    • Jamesy

Totally! Looks like a Hawkeye spin off, and yeah not in a bad way either! Renner has impressed me with pretty much everything he’s been in, and with The Avengers, Ghost Protocol and now this under his belt he looks like he could be the next big action guy on screen. Hopefully not too much action though as he has the chops for some dramatic stuff also!

  • Farzan

Looks really good and Tony Gilroy knows how to make a movie. So glad they didn’t recast Bourne. Now Matt Damon can come back in the next film and fight Renner.

  • Livy

Drink every time some says Jason Bourne’s name!

    • Griz

I know right? . . . .About the half way point, i thought i was watching a trailer for the Bourne Ultimatum

      • steve

I kind of like the fact that they are at least attempting to justify the title of the film, instead of merely using it as a cash grab and ignoring Bourne within the story.

  • Arnold

I bet Bourne Legacy is gonna be the first movie ever to succeed in box office and critical reception in a franchise that has a new lead since Tokyo Drift, xXx 2 and others are disappointments. This movie is going to prove that a franchise can survive with a new lead. HYPER-EXCITED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE !!!!!!

You forgot about the 007 films

      • Arnold

Im talking ab having a new character in a franchise.

    Bourne Legacy vs Total Recall

Sony and Universal should stop being so damn stubborn and just move one of those movies back by a week already before it is to late. Otherwise they might both end up losing half of there target audience for these films opening weekend.

    • Farzan

Total Recall looks like a joke and this is coming from a huge fan of the original. I have no idea why they thought putting the guy from Harold and Kumar in the movie was a good idea, let alone having the movie take place somewhere other than Mars.

Bourne Legacy looks so much more exciting and fresh. The fact that its not a remake/reimagining but a totally well connected spin-off has me interested.

      • BeanBag

Its because he doesn’t go to Mars in the book.

  • tarek

    Rachel Weisz is so cute.

  • LP

DAMN! I really want to see this movie now. I love the idea of this movie being both a spin off and a indirect sequel to the event in Ultimatum. Looks like there are some excellent action going on in it as well.

  • Grace

This looks AWESOME! can’t wait for more character development, but this trailer was clearly meant to establish basic plot and jeremy renner’s badassery (mission accomplished). Will DEF be seeing this one. The whole cast and action look awesome. Hawkeye or not, I would not want to see anyone else attempting this role other than Jeremy Renner. And as much as I love Matt Damon, I’m kind of appreciating the break from the “jason bourne who am i” schpeel.

Total Re–what? No thank you. Bourne Legacy was on Aug 3rd first, I dunno why Sony wants to lose such potential revenue.

  • terry

    That’s what I’m talking baby!
Clean editing , well done action, straight foreward dialog and terrific martial arts.
I am all in for this one. And you can see every dime on the screen.

  • jay

i will definitely watch this movies cos it was shot in the Philippines.. my home town…..

  • Michael Horne

Looks fantastic, and the ‘look’ of it is the same as the original trilogy. Very gritty, but sharp. Renner is good value, though I’d like to see him branch out of the action genre. Weisz is always good. I’m just hoping that it’s better than Chain Reaction which, with Weisz’s presence, the trailer reminds me of a little

  • Dave Darko

Gundamit, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Hawkeye rules, baby!

I cant believe so many people on Facebook think this will suck cuz Matt Damon isn’t in it, they gotta learn to let go!! They won’t even give this guy a chance. I’m not sure they even know that Matt left cuz he’s was being diva wanting the old director to come back.
