Adam McKay (Step Brothers) has not yet officially signed on to direct Sony Pictures’ adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic The Boys; according to the director, there’s no way he would unless the film meets two criteria:
1) the film is rated R
2) it stars Simon Pegg
When asked if he had talked to Pegg about The Boys, McKay told CHUD, “I haven’t officially signed on yet, so I haven’t had any conversations with anyone. But [Pegg's] got to do it. It has to be.” Hit the jump to find out what role McKay insists Pegg play.
Per the report, McKay wants nothing more than for Simon Pegg to play a role that was tailor-made for him: Scottish conspiracy nut Wee Hughie. Ennis apparently based the character — the newest member of a covert CIA team that attempts to keep superheroes in line — on Pegg when developing the comic series.
Pegg is currently in negotiations to reprise his role in Mission: Impossible IV, and has yet to say anything about starring in The Boys. Nevertheless, it’s probably safe to assume that he will be peppered with questions about playing Wee Hughie (with whom he shares a striking resemblance) while promoting Paul at Comic-Con later this week.

“The series is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as ‘The Boys’, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.”

Does Adam McKay strike anyone else as a terrible director for this project?
Not terrible by any means but his name attached doesn't make me want to see the film in any way. I'm still unsure the comic can be translated well in film, its humour is pretty sick and the visuals even more so, I'd love to be proven wrong but I doubt the adaptation can match the comic's tone or visuals.
I think the world of super-human stories have run their course at this point, not to say it isn't a good property but I've grown tired of it personally.
Simon Pegg doesn't have a striking resemblance to Wee Hughie, he was the basis for the character's look. Darick Robertson based the character on Simon Pegg. Simon Pegg wrote the foreward to the first trade paperback.
I believe that basis was mentioned earlier in the write-up. My regards to Mr. Robertson for not including his contribution. Both Ennis and Robertson are incredibly talented guys. Thanks for reading!
