First Trailer for Joss Whedon’s THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (Now with Forcefields)

     December 5, 2011

Producer Joss Whedon and director/co-writer Drew Goddard have been coy about how The Cabin in the Woods turns the eponymous horror sub-genre on its head.  The first trailer for the movie has gone online and now we can see what they meant.  The Cabin in the Woods genre usually revolves around something supernatural with only a mystical explanation as a vague guide.  Judging by the trailer, it looks like Whedon and Goddard have thrown together the scientific in the supernatural.  It was an approach Whedon took in the fourth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but instead of Frankenstein, Cabin looks something more along the lines of Hostel where hapless tourists are subjected to the sadistic whims of a shadowy organization.  That organization also has forcefields.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchinson, Fran Kanz, Jesse Williams, Bradley Whitford, and Richard JenkinsThe Cabin in the Woods opens April 13, 2012.

I don’t see Hostel, I see Truman Show in the horror genre (supernatural/slasher/home-invasion).

hmm, looks just ok. had higher expectations. you cant make a good trailer for a movie like this without giving too much information about the movie, like hows gonna die first and stuff like that..

I’m curious. Do you purposely choose not to spell Fran Kranz’s name correctly? In your previous article talking about the poster, you spelled it wrong. And with this article, you surely didn’t disappoint. It’s not THAT difficult to just add in one tiny letter. And if you’re having this much trouble spelling a person’s name, maybe you should look at the poster as a spell check. That’s all I have to say.

Thor and Topher! Awesome! One problem, it looks like the Hunger Games with college kids. This thing has been in the bucket for awhile! Just push up the release before March!

ive heard dick cheney and george bush have a facility like this, on one of there estates for hunting humans. its amazing what you can build with unlimited black budget funds and darpa tech.

Normally I would be skeptical but come on, Joss Whedon wrote it. It’s going to look ridiculous but be super freaking awesome and we are all going to see it.

What’s with the spoilers in the headline? I wasn’t planning on watching the trailer; the poster and the names attached were enough for me. Almost every other movie site just said “Cabin… trailer is up”. So now i know its sci-fi not just horror.

Matt, you did this too when you revealed who would be returning for Dark Knight Rises.

Put this kind of info in the article, where people choose to find out more, not in the headline.

I guess the bet thing is just not to visit this site anymore. Oops.

Well…that looked pretty damned uniquely insane. Nice way to pull off a genre mash. Very interested now. Should be good.

    where’s scooby doo?

Looks a cross between TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and that Canadian indie thriller THE CUBE. Remember that one? This one looks intriguing enough.

the trailer gives away a bit to much information me thinks….
but I am a fan of The Cube.

Ok, the slasher part look lame as almost every now days slasher who takes itself seriously. But the weird hi-tech WTF is happening here looks so damm interesting. Even when it kindda make me think in Morning Glories.

Man, I am so tired of those stupid remakes! Doesn’t Hollywood have any new or original ideas?
