First Look at Adam Sandler in Tom McCarthy’s Drama THE COBBLER

by     Posted 237 days ago

Though Adam Sandler will next be seen on the big screen in another one of his familiar-looking comedies, Blended, the actor actually has a few interesting dramatic roles on the horizon.  One such role is in The Station Agent and The Visitor director Tom McCarthy’s new film The Cobbler, and the first image of Sandler in the film has been released online.  Sandler plays a lonely, modern day cobbler in New York City who feels like his life is going nowhere until he discovers a family heirloom that literally gives him the ability to “walk in another man’s shoes” and see the world differently.  The fantastical aspect is a bit of a departure for McCarthy, who most recently helmed the Paul Giamatti-fronted Win Win, but the pairing of the filmmaker with Sandler is certainly promising.

Hit the jump to take a look at the first image.  The film also stars Dustin Hoffman, Steve Buscemi, Ellen Barkin, Melonie Diaz, Method Man, and Dan Stevens.

Sandler needs to get back into making more of these types of films and away from his comfort level to teaming up with Dennis Hogan for the 11th time to make another crap comedy (after Big Daddy it was all down hill between the two). The last good film he made was Reign Over Me.

Good. Sandler kind of rules in dramatic roles, so here’s to him for doing more of this and less god awful nonsense comedies like Blended.

I have lost all faith in Sandler as a comedic actor. If the script is good, maybe he can pull this off, but I am not holding my breath.
