Mad Max: Fury Road won’t be Charlize Theron’s only “badass” role in the near future. Stunt performers/coordinators David Leitch and Chad Stahelski made a big splash last year with their Keanu Reeves-fronted actioner John Wick, and while they’re currently actively developing John Wick 2, they’ll first turn their attention to a female-led actioner starring one hell of an actress.
Per Deadline, Charlize Theron is set to star in The Coldest City with Leitch and Stahelski directing, and production planning to get underway this October in Germany. Based on the Antony Johnston graphic novel of the same name, the thriller revolves around a super spy (Theron) who is spurred into action when an underground MI6 officer is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Theron will also produce the project, which boasts a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) and will be released in North America by Focus Features.
Theron is currently getting ready to reprise her role as Ravenna in the currently filming Snow White and the Huntsman “spinoff” (it’s really a sequel minus Kristen Stewart) The Huntsman and has a lead voice role in LAIKA Animation’s 2016 release Kubo and the Two Strings.
Leitch and Stahelski, meanwhile, are red hot after the success of John Wick. The duo is being courted by Universal to helm Chris Pratt in Cowboy Ninja Viking, recently signed on to helm Sony’s Valiant Comics adaptation Bloodshot, and have a TV series in the works with Keanu Reeves called Rain.
