Charlize Theron's stock has been on the rise for the most part as of late. This is thanks largely to her role in Mad Max: Fury Road as Imperator Furiosa, but she's been pretty consistent for quite some time. I'm not really a big fan of Monster, but her performance in the movie was inarguably a highlight of what was good about it, and she's been similarly engaging in Prometheus, Young Adult, and the undervalued Hancock. She'll next be seen in Fast 8, as a major baddie, and is also set to re-team with her Young Adult writer and director, Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody.

Just as promising as those projects is The Coldest City, a thriller set in the world of MI6 agents, which Theron will star in alongside the likes of John Goodman, Toby Jones, James McAvoy, and Sofia Boutella; her Hancock co-star Eddie Marsan also appears in the cast. The film is being put out by Focus and directed by David Leitch, the uncredited co-director of John Wick, and now we have a solid release date for the action film: August 11th, 2017.  It's not the most promising of release dates - February and August are usually the dead zones -  but after John Wick and the work Theron has been doing, there's still plenty of promise for The Coldest City.

Here's the official synopsis for The Coldest City:

A high-stakes, global action-thriller that takes place in the city of Berlin, on the eve of the Wall’s collapse and the shifting of superpower alliances. Charlize Theron (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) portrays Lorraine Broughton, a top-level spy for MI6, who is dispatched to Berlin to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has just killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown. She is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy of “X-Men”), and the two form an uneasy alliance, unleashing their full arsenal of skills in pursuing a threat that jeopardizes the West’s entire intelligence operation.
