Easily one of the most widely known composers working today, Hans Zimmer’s variety of compositions ranges from bombastic (Pirates of the Caribbean) to ethereal (Gladiator) to bubbly (The Holiday). In addition to scoring an average of 27 films a year, the composer has also worked up a nice collaboration with director Christopher Nolan having done the first two Batman films and 2010’s Inception. He returns as composer for The Dark Knight Rises, though this time he’s taking the reins without James Newton Howard, who collaborated with Zimmer on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. We recently got our first look at the track listing for the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack, and now 30-second samples of Zimmer’s score have landed online that give us a nice tease of what the composer has cooked up for the villain Bane.
Hit the jump to take a listen. The soundtrack will be available on July 17th, while The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.
Thanks to BatmanNews for the heads up.

OMFG. Those last four tracks. Jizz.
So is it me or does “Necessary Evil” remind you of the Joker theme? I know he had a specific Joker theme but when it came on he was the first thing that came to mind. Of course I think it was used heavily throughout TDK so it might just be that.
Hans Zimmer does NOT score 27 movies a year. Typo or uninformed writer?
Well it could be a possibility. If that’s the average number of films he scores it doesn’t necessarily mean those movies will be released that year. If he scores 27 movies this year that probably covers those movies with their release in the course of a year or two.
Dosn’t he also score video games like Call of Duty or something? I might have the wrong game, but I’m aware he does games as well.
From 2010-Now Hans has scored 15 movies, video games, and shows. By no means 27 PER YEAR. And if that is true, that would mean he would score more then 2 movies a month. 2 weeks to write, record, and mix a score. No way.
Easy there, folks. It was a joke.
Lol, I totally misread/misunderstood that. Nice one though. Hans is a busy guy.
Sounds like a good extension of the overall Nolan-Zimmer sonic aesthetic. Lots of similar movements from A DARK KNIGHT on the last score. Aside from the last, more choral track, it’s more militant maybe? Nothing however stands out like Joker’s theme sound from 2008.
For those wondering why Newton Howard didn’t return this time around, it was a combination of scheduling conflicts (I believe he scored The Hunger Games and Snow White and the Huntsman back to back) and also not wanting to step in between Nolan and Zimmer’s huge collaborative relationship that they developed on Inception.
Its just incredible!!
How can u not love it?
NOLAN-ZIMMER collaboration is just that exceptional!!
Hope they carry on!!
Great Great SOUNDTRACK.!!
The Fire Rises sounds great. Triumphal, militaristic… romantic?
Far from romantic. It’s the prologue song.
I’m going to push back on this one. Bane is clearly channeling a “French Revolution” vibe according to Nolan, and it comes through in the swelling march of The Fire Rises. This is revolution on the move. Its romanticism is less eros and more Ares.
My $.02.
There such a clear difference from when he collabed with James Newton Howard. I love it!
What about the music from the MTV segment? Is that in the film? It was amazing.
