THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Viral Campaign Continues with Bane T-Shirt and Cylinder Map [UPDATED]

     December 15, 2011

As we continue towards the release of The Dark Knight Rises, the film’s viral campaign soldiers onward.  After letting fans know where they could go to see the six-minute prologue (answer: anywhere but Georgia), various websites have received a cylinder with a map on it with a Bane t-shirt inside the cylinder.  When I first saw the t-shirt, I cracked up.  Apparently, Bane’s goals are to take over Gotham, bring down Batman, and make some money from CafePress on the side.  The map of Gotham City is more interesting.  It contains five “strike zones”, but this isn’t a real-world Alternate Reality Game hunt since—and I hate to be the one to tell you this—Gotham City is fictional.

Hit the jump to check out the shirt and the cylinder map.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.  The six-minute prologue will be attached to some IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol tomorrow.

UPDATE: We’ve been sent the t-shirt and map. We’ve added 17 high resolution photos.

Hot Damn! I love Viral Marketing. Makes being a nerd so much fun.

i hate to be the one to tell you this matt, but you can stick the cylinder and the jokes in your ass, shitty attention seeker. i dont give i shit if you go away from collider, but try to dont be such a moron when report the news, in other words, the reason why we are here.

    • Flyersfan20

Agree. His jokes are terrible. I think everybody agrees that he tries to hard to be funny. Instead of reporting on the movie news he has to find some way to put his stupid jokes in the article. I’m all for reading articles with a little humor in them but he is just terrible.

    • fravit

if he’s an attention seeker, it’s working. you both read AND commented on his article.

      • Nick Hart

they read it because it’s about the dark knight rises. no one reads articles BECAUSE they are written by matt goldberg

      • Flyersfan20

Nick, well said. I don’t read an article because a certain person wrote it. I do read articles written by Goldberg [obviously], even though I’m not fond of his writing style. But it depends on what movie he’s writing about, in this case, The Dark Knight Rises. If he writes about a movie I’m interested in then I’ll read it. If the movie doesn’t interest me, I won’t read it. Pretty simple.

  • skroegerj

So what exactly did Matt Goldberg do? I’m relatively new to this site and have found various comments about how he’s a PoS. Can someone explain how this started?

    • john

I’ve been reading the site for several years, it seems to have gotten worse over the past few months.

I will admit that I’m not particularly a fan of the tone and sarcasm in Matt’s writing, it’s so frequent that it seems like he doesn’t even like movies. Personally, I would rather be able to read movie news without having negative commentary attached.

The primary reason I read this site is for the great interviews Steve does.

    • Agent_Black

He didn’t do anything really Skroegerj that he hasn’t done in this article, he cracks the odd joke or 2 about a ‘precious’ franchise and some people without a sense of humour start acting like Nazi’s, telling what he can write/can’t write and calling him names like a bunch of little children on a playground… at least that’s the only time I’ve noticed such pack behaviour as this (outside of the Internet) at school. Bunch of little whiney bitches need to get themselves a life.

      • skroegerj

Thanks for explaining john and Agent_Black.

@simon&Flyersfan20–There are scores of OTHER websites you can go to for Dark Knight Rises info. If you two (and any other ) ass clowns don’t like Goldberg then go somewhere else. No one is forcing you to read the info here. Collider is successful in no small part to the people who write for the site, Goldberg included. As long as he writes about the movies I’m interested in I’ll keep reading.

  • BubbaLove

Can I have the shirt? Y’all get plenty of free stuff.

  • Mr.Rich316

    Dibs on the map.

  • Strong Enough

ppl are such dumbasses. Matt doing his job. go somewhere else if your bothered by a mere joke he makes. Stop being sensitive losers

  • Bowlofships

    I liked it..

  • LEM

Why couldn’t it be a good shirt.

  • Corey

I feel like “the fire rises” will be Bane’s catchphrase like “Why so serious?” was the Joker’s catchphrase in the previous film.

I said it before and I’ll say it again: Matt Goldberg is king of the assholes

  • 911

Slightly interesting, some of the street names are Nolan’s kids. Rory St. Magnus St, Flora St. Wonder if any other street names have any hidden meaning.

    • 911

      I’m updating myself.

I spotted a Ward st – the main football player in ‘that one scene.’
Also a Wayan street. (a stretch but close enough).
And what looks like a Hardy st. The first letter is written over.

  • guy_shane

it seems to me that all of Bane’s strike points leave only one way in or out of the city. which is interesting considering that he dedicates one strike to what appears to be a park.

  • Raghu

Where can I get the shirt and the map?
