The Darkest Hour looks to be one of the most interesting offerings from the recent wave of alien invasion movies.  To promote The Darkest Hour, Summit has made great use of another en vouge concept: the motion poster.  Producer Tom Jacobson described the aliens as “creatures of electricity and electromagnetism,” an effect seen here as a bolt of energy wraps around the neck of a young woman and disintegrates her.  If that sounds intriguing (how could it not?), check out our interview with Jacobson and fellow producer Timur Bekambetov on location in Moscow for a lot more.

Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachel Taylor, Max Minghella, and Joel Kinnaman star as young tourists who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack.  Chris Gorak (Right at Your Door) directed the December 25 release from a script by Jon Spaihts.  See the motion poster after the jump.

Official synopsis:

The DARKEST HOUR is the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects.

One of the most interesting offerings in a recent wave of alien invasion movies? Have you even seen the trailer? This just looks like more of the same old crap. Wow it’s set in Moscow. Whoopity doo Basil.

    • Different?!

      Douche ^^

Well it’s new in the sense that it’s about a group of teenagers fighting aliens for survival. The aliens have already won and wiped out most of the humans, these kids are just trying to not get killed and for stuff like food and water.

Have to agree with Scared For Movies, I saw the trailer for this before Rise of the Planet of the Apes and it looked stupid. The light thing was a new approach but it’s just a gimmick at the end of the day.

I like sc i-fi and have always been interested in the concept of aliens yet I’m totally sick of these movies/TV shows already and I haven’t seen half of them… it surprises me how the entertainment industry has become saturated with one idea repeated over and over and over and over and…. *yawn*

Ever since Remedy Entertainment launched the light/shadow using game Alan Wake, there have been a flux of movies that utilize the same concept, including the recent Vanishing on 7th Street.
