First Look at Zooey Deschanel and Anton Yelchin in THE DRIFTLESS AREA; Aubrey Plaza Joins Cast

The first The Driftless Area image from director Zachary Sluser‘s unconventional romance film has been released.  Based on the Tom Drury novel of the same name, the pic tells the story of the young love between a bartender (Anton Yelchin) and a mysterious woman (Zooey Deschanel) that becomes threatened when the bartender gets mixed up with a dangerous crook and a bag of stolen cash.  This first image gives us a look at the two leads looking intently into each other’s eyes, and THR adds that Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza has also been added to the cast.  Production is currently underway in Vancouver.

Co-written by and based on Tom Drury’s acclaimed novel of the same name, THE DRIFTLESS AREA stars Zooey Deschanel, Anton Yelchin, and John Hawkes, and tells the tale of an unconventional romance about death, love and fate.  Pierre’s life is saved by a beautiful stranger, and their pasts catch up with them in a violent and transcendent finale.
