The Equalizer is just about a month away, so you can expect Sony Pictures to really ramp up the promotional campaign in the coming weeks.  Two weeks ago we got that new TV spot, but now it’s time for a more comprehensive look at the film courtesy of this brand new clip.

The movie stars Denzel Washington as Robert McCall.  He used to be a Black Ops commando, but managed to swap that career for a quieter existence in Boston by faking his own death.  However, when a young girl named Teri (Chloe Moretz) needs his help, he’s compelled to come out of retirement and take on some Russian gangsters.  Hit the jump to catch The Equalizer clip and find out what happens when one of McCall’s enemies follows him home.  The movie opens traditionally and in IMAX on September 26th, and also stars Melissa LeoMartin CsokasHaley BennettDavid Harbour and Bill Pullman.

I’ve been blaming my lack of interest in this one on my lack of interest in the TV series, but this scene is just plain old boring.  Perhaps it’ll have a little more momentum in context after we’ve had a look at what goes down in that Russian restaurant, but as a standalone entity, this thing doesn’t have much suspense at all.  Plus, the shadow on the other guy’s face is distracting.  What do you think?

Here’s the official synopsis for The Equalizer:

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.  When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help.  He is The Equalizer.
