Liam Neeson is set to reprise his wizened badass character yet again by starring in a remake of Rupert Wyatt's The Escapist.  Wyatt's U.K. prison thriller starred Brian Cox as an inmate with a life sentence who stages a prison break by recruiting fellow inmates so that he can see his sick daughter.  Considering the solid premise and strong cast—which also includes Damian Lewis, Joseph Fiennes, Seu Jorge, Liam Cunningham, and Dominic Cooper—I felt that the movie should have been much better than it was, but instead it feels very rote.  Perhaps the American remake can get it right, and putting Neeson in the lead is a good start.

Wyatt will produce, and Sean O'Keefe will pen the script.  While some of O'Keefe's scripts have been picked up, they've been stuck in development hell for years (although that's no fault of his).  O'Keefe's current credits are the video games Lair and Pursuit Force.  Hopefully, Neeson and the screenplay will attract good talent because The Escapist definitely has potential.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer for the U.K. original.
