With director Joe Johnston out promoting The Wolfman (movie clips here) as the film gets released February 12, you can expect plenty of The First Avenger: Captain America updates over the next few weeks. The most recent one comes courtesy of filmjournal.com as he gave them an update as to where they are in the pre-production phase:
“We’re in prep,” Johnston says. “Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we’re set up down in Manhattan Beach [California]. It’s the part of the process that I love the most,” he enthuses. “We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we could do this?’ It’s that phase of the production where money doesn’t matter: ‘Let’s put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford.’” The film, he says at this early stage, will begin “in 1942, 1943″ during World War II. “The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we’re sort of avoiding. We’re going back to the ’40s, and then forward to what they’re doing with Captain America now.”
I’ll be speaking with Johnston next weekend, so expect another Captain America update very soon.

Hopefully they dont redesign his outfit too much. One of the best things about Cap, is the outfit and shield. I know the 40s suit looked different, but the modern day version is great. Hope they dont dumb it down or over design ittoo much.
Iron-mans suit for example is perfect. The dark knights suit is however ugly and over designed. (The arkham asylum game suit is perfect)

Agree that the suit is essential to the hero we know as Cap. I doubt they'll change it much.
I'm anxious to know who will be playing him, and NO it will not be Aaron Eckhart. At least I hope not (no offense to the talented actor). We want a fresh face that we haven't seen in other super-hero-movies.
One thing I am kind of hoping is that they show the 1940's with Caps' old-school suit (as they did with Iron Man). Then they update his suit to the modern version shown in the pics in this article and others.
