Fans eager to see how The CW’s upcoming DC Comics adaptation The Flash fits into the existing Arrow series won’t have to wait long.  Following the success of Arrow, the network greenlit another DC Comics adaptation last year in the form of The Flash.  The Barry Allen character (played by Grant Gustin) was initially introduced on Arrow, confirming that both shows will exist within the same TV universe.  As such, well before The Flash has even aired in earnest, fans have been clamoring for a big Arrow/The Flash crossover episode.  Speaking today at the TCA’s, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that there will indeed be a crossover event, and it’ll happen this season.

Hit the jump for more details on the Flash/Arrow crossover event, as well as news of a Prison Break star joining the series as a familiar comics villain.

Talking to TV Guide, Kreisberg said the big Flash/Arrow crossover will happen towards the beginning of their respective seasons:

"Episodes 8 of both shows, Arrow and Flash, are going to be a two-hour crossover event. Also], in Episode 4, Felicity [Emily Bett Rickards] is going to come to The Flash."

This should come as welcome news to those looking forward to both shows, and one imagines this won’t be the first time that Gustin’s The Flash and Stephen Amell’s Arrow cross paths.

Additionally, as The Flash is beginning production on its first season, THR reports that Prison Break actor and Stoker screenwriter Wentworth Miller has joined the cast as Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold.  He will appear in the show’s fourth episode, though it’s unclear how fully formed the villain will be.  In the comics, Snart used a series of cold-themed weapons to take on The Flash and was the leader of the Rogues, a criminal association that is regularly up to no good.

The Flash premieres on The CW on Tuesday, October 7th, while season three of Arrow kicks off on Wednesday, October 8th.
