[Update: "The Man in the Iron Mask" identity has been revealed! Check below to see if our pollsters got it right! Our spoilery reveal, for those of you who haven't seen the finale yet, awaits you at the end of this article, following the poll.]

The Flash dropped a big reveal last night by letting Zoom show his Jay Garrick Face (which you guys guessed), but there’s still one seemingly vital character who is wearing a mask. We’re talking, of course, about The Man in the Iron Mask — a.k.a. Zoom’s prisoner who tapped out Jay’s name to Barry and Jessie while they were sharing adjoining cells. The Man in the Iron Mask seems integral to figuring out which version of Jay Garrick Zoom is, and what fate may await Team Flash when they inevitably go back to rescue our mysterious prisoner. Who is he? This speculation is about to get complicated in only the glorious kind of way a time-traveling, multiverse-embracing superhero show could get, but here are our best guesses, which you can vote on below:

Earth-1 Henry Allen

It always seemed wildly out-of-character that Henry Allen would just up and leave his son upon his release from prison — and it is the kind of character misstep that The Flash hardly ever makes. Could Henry Allen’s odd departure from Central City been part of a narrative setup for becoming Zoom’s prisoner? Perhaps Zoom threatened Barry, coercing Henry to come with him to Earth-2. Perhaps Henry Allen really did leave Central City on his own volition, and was then later kidnapped by Zoom to be used as leverage against Barry when the situation called for it. Whatever the timeline, we wouldn’t be surprised if it were John Wesley Shipp under that iron mask. (Which is pretty tragic to think about, given that Henry Allen has just gotten out of prison…)

Hunter Zolomon

The reveal that Zoom has Jay Garrick’s face has led many to assume that he is Hunter Zolomon — aka Jay’s Earth-1 doppelgänger and Zoom in comic book canon. Until we get confirmation, however, we’re not really sure which version of Jay Garrick Zoom is. This means that Hunter Zolomon could be The Man in the Iron Mask and that his appearance in an earlier episode (i.e. when Jay and Caitlin tracked him down to that bench in the park) was really set up by Zoom, a ruse to keep Caitlin from suspecting anything. For those keeping track at home, this would necessitate a third Jay Garrick: 1) Zoom, 2) Dead Jay Garrick, 3) The Man in the Iron Mask. This seems a little excessive, but — at this point — The Flash has gone full-on multiverse. Why would they stop at just two Earths?

Earth-52 Jay Garrick

The only thing The Flash loves playing with more than the multiverse is the timeline. Earlier this season, we met a version of Eobard Thawne from an earlier part in his timeline than when he subsumed Harrison Wells’ identity. Could this have been narrative foreshadowing that Zoom’s identity is also tied to an alternate point in the timeline. If Zoom is Earth-2 Jay Garrick from the future, then perhaps his prisoner is Earth-2 Jay Garrick from the present. We know that speedsters have the potential to time travel. Could Zoom and The Man in the Iron Mask be the same man at different points in the timeline?

Ego or Superego Jay Garrick

An astute viewer theorized in our review comments that Zoom, The Man in the Iron Mask, and Dead Jay Garrick are all versions of the same Jay Garrick, split apart from use of the various Velocity formulas into the id, ego, and superego. This theory actually makes a lot of sense re: the respective, differing personalities of the Jay Garrick person and the fact that there seem to be so many Jay Garricks running around in general. It would also tie in the Velocity formulas in a cohesive way. So far, the negative effects of the formula have been teased more than demonstrated. We saw how opposed Jay was to using the formula again. Was this because he thought he might inadvertently create another Zoom?

Eddie Thawne

Nope, I still haven’t given up on Eddie Thawne. Yes, his death saved the world and erased present-day Eobard Thawne from existence, but we never did see what happened to his body after getting pulled into the wormhole. Could he have somehow survived and ended up in Zoom’s hands? It seems strange that Zoom would want to keep a random cop from an alternate universe prisoner, but if Eddie mentioned his speedster friend, then anything is possible.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Let’s be real: There is only one Man in the Iron Mask — and that is Leonardo DiCaprio. Has the Oscar-nominated actor decided to take a recurring, so-far-anonymous role on a relatively small network superhero show? Probably.

(Editor's Note: Earth-2 Henry Allen is my pick).

Update: So close! In fact, the Man in the Iron Mask was Jay Garrick a.k.a. The Flash, but from Earth-3 (!) who looks exactly like Barry Allen's father, Henry. It's a little confusing to find out that Earth-1's Henry Allen doppelganger is an older version of Jay Garrick. Great moment for John Wesley Shipp!
