Once again, The CW has come through with a massive wave of renewals for almost all of their fan favorite shows, including all 5 DC shows (The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning), freshman series Charmed and Legacies, plus Dynasty and the utterly unkillable Supernatural (which is about to celebrate its 300th episode.)
The renewals fit with The CW's patterns in recent years, especially as the network leaned into expanded programming this year, transitioning to a six-night schedule by adding Sunday scheduling back to its roster. Last week, The CW announced four pilot pickups, including a Jane the Virgin spinoff titled Jane the Novella and a Riverdale spinoff called Katy Keene, as well as pilots for The Lost Boys and an untitled Nancy Drew project. There's also the Batwoman pilot, so the network definitely isn't hurting for new content.
CW president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement:
“This season, we expanded our primetime schedule to six nights with the addition of Sunday -- which has been an unqualified success for the network, our affiliates and our advertisers. In addition to growing our schedule across the week, we also continue to add more year-round programming. The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning,” said Pedowitz. “These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”
As for what didn't get renewed, the shows still on the bubble are The 100, the recently launched Roswell reboot, All American, and In the Dark. As Pedowitz referenced, we can expect to hear more about those titles in May as we near upfronts. As previously announced, fans will be saying goodbye to Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and iZobmie this season.
