the flash trailer

While The CW’s season two finale of Arrow is currently don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-it level intense, one of its commercial breaks features the first look at a hero who moves at an even faster pace.  The Flash is the latest DC hero to make an appearance on the small screen, and this early look at the new fall series gives us a sense of tone, possible interaction with the Starling City’s green guardian, and just how fast the title character really is.

The DC’s speedy superhero series stars Grant Gustin (Glee), Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order)Danielle Panabaker (Shark), Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries), Candice Patton (The Game), Tom Cavanagh (Ed), John Wesley Shipp (the 90s The Flash), Carlos Valdes, guest star Patrick Sabongui, and recurring star Michelle Harrison (Emily Owens, MD).  Hit the jump to view the first The Flash trailer and a 5 minute extended trailer.

Check out the first look at The Flash below:

And here’s the new extended trailer:

After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

The Flash costume looks kind of generic in the muted tones.

I think they are keeping it simple on purpose … making it look like something just thrown together like in The Amazing Spider-man.

  • Yup

CW is striking all the right notes and making all the right plays with both of these franchises. They have The Flash, nailed, perfectly. Instantly recognizable, likeable and enduring.

Not looking for them to over use the Arrow/Flash Team Ups…but in just 10 seconds of footage you see the potential and to all the places this dynamic could go and grow.

If I am allowed to go and cross Brands…The scene where Arrow Drew three Arrowscwoth a smile almost reminded me of something Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm would do to each other. A brotherly/friendly rivalry of powers.

CW has got something really run to work with going forward.

The visual effect for the Flash’s speed is perfect. The costume is a little goofy in close up, but overall it looks very promising so far.

  • TV is no place for Comics

I just can’t get into any comic-based TV shows. Agents of C.R.A.P. avoids showing actual heroes because of budget reasons and I’m afraid that the effects shown here for Flash look like they could have been accomplished in a fan film. Even the cinematography screams of something I could shoot at my local park with a iPhone.

    • Lex Walker

Oh my god! You’re the golden child of filmmaking the prophecies spoke of! Go my child! Use your iPhone of Cinematic Glory and film an entire season of television that doesn’t play out like horrible fan-fiction and take it to Hollywood! The quality of network television depends on you! You’re our last hope! Go…you mook.

      • eternalozzie

I believe that was the required level of ridicule :)

        Sarcasm at its greatest

    • Ekkard Black

Are you that comic book guy from the Simpsons….when I read your comment for some reason I envision his voice…heh…kinda funny.

      • Lex Walker

I’d be lying if I said that little bit wasn’t inspired by a specific comic book guy rant.

    • eternalozzie

Let’s see your iPhone shot trailer then … wait … no … that’s what I thought

    • BatCage

Yeah you’re right, Batman the Animated Series was crap. . . *rolls eyes*

Who woulda thought that the CW could put together a better shared DC universe than their big brother Warner Bros? Kinda embarrassing for those WB execs

      It’s not even built yet.

      • milo

        And that’s his point.

      • Spanky

        No.. no it wasn’t really

  • DEADP00L

He needs to fill into the suit but otherwise flash was always my kind of guy.

  • MJ

Oh, oh, they turned The Flash into smarty pants Andrew Garfield.

My excitement for this just dropped a notch. Not impressed.

    • Ekkard Black

Uh…every comic I read and cartoons I watched I believe the Flash was a wise cracking super hero like spider-man is in the Marvel Universe.

      • ʝoe ßloggs

Half-Bingo! However that was wisecracking Wally West. This is Barry Allen…so I can’t understand that characterization. The illustration of speed is really good. Although 3 arrows is simply not “game-on” for The Flash.

      • MJ

Yea, Barry Allen was A MAN.

    • Chad

Except that Garfield absolutely nails Spider-Man.

  • poppincherry

Looks likes cheap ass 80′s bullshit!!!’

  • Bob

That, in my honest opinion, looked freaking amazing. Costume looks great.

  • Colin Christian

So,super fast General Hospital to go with arrow firing Days of our lives?

  • DNAsplitter

I hope he gets a costume update at some point during the season or at the end of season 1. The one from the 90′s show looks better IMO and is something they should go for in this show.

    • Kyle Chandler

      I like it.

      • DNAsplitter

It’s not the worst but I’d prefer something closer to the 90′s show as I felt that is about the closest we’ve gotten to a real live version of the Flash. I like the special effects showing lightning around him as he runs.

      • Kyle Chandler

Yeah, I liked the 90′s version but it also seemed a bit rigid, kind of like the keaton batman suit. This looks like a more practical outfit.

And, frankly, I think any grown man in a full red costume is going to look a little silly.

Dear GOD, the extended trailer looks stunning.

  • Loso_Rocks

That extended trailer was …. awesome. Damn.

  • evinrude

    This could work.
That said, the marketing needs to try a little less hard.Title logo looks corny and dated.

    • Kyle Chandler

I can see what you mean, but I think they’re shooting for a bit more of a “gee-wiz” factor than they did with Arrow. Overall, the tone looks lighter and more whimsical (and, frankly, more comic-book-like), so the logo might be a reflection of that.

  • Lulululu

    DC’s Quicksilver looks pretty epic.

    • LAME

DC’s Quicksilver? Are you kidding me?

  • mattinacan

this fall, watch the fastest tween alive, battle a guy who creates really slow clouds. find out who will win, when one guy slowly spins his clouds and tween flash runs really quickly in the other direction.
