Carl Erik Rinsch recently directed a cool short film recently for the electronics manufacturer Philips as part of Ridley Scott’s RSA team. For those that need a brief refresher on Rinsch, he was the guy who almost directed the Alien prequel. Instead, Rinsch is now attached to direct 47 Ronin and a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon for Universal.
The short film is part of the Parallel Lines project where five of RSA’s hottest up-and-coming directors each had to make a film and the only requirement was that they include the dialogue, “It’s a unicorn.” This leads me to believe that Philips is building the world’s first unicorn.
Hit the jump to see Rinsch’s sci-fi short, “The Gift” which debuted on /Film. After you see it, you’ll want to keep him on your radar.

Wow, that was amazing!
Cool little film, really like the robot.
To bad he didn't get the Alien prequel, hopefully he can make the 47 Ronin a good movie w/ Neo, err.. Keanu.
On a side note: Never seen the Glow effect that comes w/ some of Phillips TV's, I'm glad I didn't get one because all the changing colors in the background is extremely annoying.
End of Line
Very talented guy, clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
Reminds me of James Cameron and Andrei Tarkovsky.
this guy should direct akira. some of the shots in that cycle sequence were really well placed. this would be a great aesthetic for akira
Holy shtick! That was absolutely breathtaking. That is one talented team of filmmakers!
So am I the only one who noticed that the police costume design was 100% ripped off of Half-Life 2? While it's hard not to enjoy a good ol' dystopian robot motorcycle chase, the film really wasn't that original…the world needs another Kubrick…

omg.. i love it!
i hope this becomes a feature film
Exactly, I immediately thought 'Combine' although very well done, it isn't that original but it does show how talented this guy is. I look forward to seeing what he does in the future. Overall a very good short.
