Sony has released the first official trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, following a (purportedly) leaked red-band trailer that hit the web over the weekend. David Fincher directs this adaptation of the popular book by Stieg Larsson. Rooney Mara stars as Lisbeth Salander, the young heroine who investigates the Vanger family with journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig). Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer, and Joley Richardson also star. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21. Watch the trailer after the jump. The two trailers are stylistically identical, though my memory suggests that many of the individual shots differ.  (Certainly less side boob in this green band version.)  Again set to the pulsing beat of Karen O's cover of "Immigrant Song," the new trailer is a neat piece of editing without offering any real information about the movie.  And for now, given the pedigree, that's more than enough.Click here for all our Dragon Tattoo coverage.I sure do appreciate the tracking shot leading up to the mansion in the snow much more without the shaky cam effect of the leaked version. Here's the synopsis for Larsson's book:

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption. [Amazon]
