New Trailer and Poster for THE GOOD DOCTOR Starring Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom is a charming guy, but I’ve always believed his on-screen persona suffered because his talent is always chasing his unbelievable beauty.  The Good Doctor may have found a way around that problem.  First, director Lance Daly gave him a flat haircut, downgrading his looks from A to A-.  Second, the lead character, “an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues,” is reserved and buttoned down.  So any perceived woodenness may well be in service of the performance.  The Good Doctor spent the last few months touring the festival circuit, receiving mostly good reviews and positive notices for Bloom’s performance.  A new trailer paints a vivid picture of the thriller, including some heavy lifting on Bloom’s part once “things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.”  If Bloom pulls that off, I’m eager to check it out.

Riley Keough, Rob Morrow, Taraji P. Henson, and Michael Peña also star.  The Good Doctor opens on August 31.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Official synopsis:

Martin Blake (Orlando Bloom) is an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues: Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow), self-assured fellow intern Dan (Troy Garity) and no-nonsense nurse Theresa (Taraji P. Henson). But things are not going Martin’s way and he can’t seem to shake off his insecurities. When 18-year-old patient Diane (Riley Keough) is admitted for a kidney infection, Martin steps in, getting the much-needed boost of self-esteem he craves. But things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.

Last I saw him was in an Hilarious episode of ‘Extras’,where he lampooned himself.

“Woodenness?” Really? It’s rather the BLINDNESS of those who can’t see and the ignorance of those who never learned to understand and appreciate the true acting. The people that can’t read the body/eyes language can’t possibly get the true beauty in Bloom’s acting. And, there is the ongoing jealousy towards his looks and success, of course. Maybe these people should start learning to watch the REAL acting and stop blaming the actor for their own inability to see. Or, they can continue to watch comics on screen and the actors who are trying hard to make faces on screen. This kind of “acting” they can appreciate, sure.

Bloom is an amazing actor, he is one of a kind. Can’t wait to see his new movie. He never dissapoints. In every role he plays he brings the new sides of his beautiful talent. I appreciate and enjoy it. A lot.
