DiCaprio, Maguire, and Seyfried in Baz Luhrmann’s THE GREAT GATSBY? Not So Fast…

Last week, we reported an interesting casting rumor regarding Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby.  The rumor was that Leonardo DiCaprio was up for Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire for Nick Carraway, and Amanda Seyfried for Daisy.  Deadline now reports that news regarding the cast, but also whether Luhrmann is directing, is a bit premature.  First up, Luhrmann hasn’t decided yet if he’s going to make Gatsby his next project.  He’s also considering an original musical as his follow-up to 2008’s Australia.

And as for the cast?  No offer has been made to DiCaprio, but “Maguire is at the top of Luhrmann’s mind to do Nick Carraway.”  And as for Daisy, “that role is wide open in Luhrmann’s mind.”  For those who never took American Literature or just need a refresher, hit the jump for the book’s synopsis.
