The moment you throw in a title card referencing Taken, it’s hard not to think, “Oh, this is just Sean Penn doing the Liam Neeson thing,” but based on this new trailer for Pierre Morel’s The Gunman, it does seem as though the stakes could be high enough to bring the film beyond watching an accomplished actor run around and take out bad guys, and actually give you a little something to think about.  Penn steps in as James Terrier, a hired killer who’s eager to ditch his gig and just settle down, but first he’s got to make it through “a deadly cat and mouse game” in order to clear his name.

You can check out the new The Gunman international trailer after the jump.  The film is set to arrive in theaters on March 20th and also stars Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca and Mark Rylance.
