It appears The Hangover 3 is inevitable. Shortly after the release of the disappointing The Hangover Part II, director Todd Phillips promised a second sequel that would complete the trilogy. Now, after a long negotiation period, the film’s stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis are close to landing a major pay raise to reprise their roles. The trio are apparently asking for $15 million each (against backend), which is a steep increase from the $5 million each (plus backend) for The Hangover Part II, and under $1 million they received for the first film in the comedy franchise. Hit the jump for more, including how soon The Hangover 3 may hit theaters.

The Hangover Part II image The Hangover 2 imageTHR reports that the trio has presented a united front in salary negotiations for the third film, and are now likely to be paid their demanded amount. Warner Bros. is hoping that the pic will go into production this summer in time for a Memorial Day 2013 release. The studio is understandably keen on moving things along quickly for the all-but-guaranteed hit. Their Batman franchise comes to an end this summer with The Dark Knight Rises, they recently halted production on Akira and Arthur & Lancelot over budget concerns, and 2012 marks their first year sans the Harry Potter franchise.

I found The Hangover Part II to be a major disappointment, mainly because it was the exact same movie as the first pic with only a change of setting. Phillips has pledged that the third film will take the finale in a different direction, and THR’s report reiterates that The Hangover 3 will deviate from the “forgotten-debauchery formula.” Cooper recently said that the story takes place in Los Angeles, and the plot has been rumored to involve Alan escaping from a mental hospital. The Hangover Part II co-writer Craig Mazin is hard at work on the script for Part III, so hopefully he delivers something fresh and entertaining to close out the series.
