Though we’re all currently focused on the promising summer movie season at hand, production is scheduled to get underway on another high profile film later this year. We learned back in January that director Todd Phillips and stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha were all game to return for one last entry in The Hangover franchise. Deals were closed a few months later, with production set to get underway this coming September for a May 24th, 2013 release date. Plot details have been slim save for Galifianakis’ claim that The Hangover Part III would find the guys breaking Alan out of a mental hospital, but now reports have surfaced that suggest the film may not only find the Wolf Pack returning to Las Vegas, but also heading down south to Tijuana. Hit the jump for more.
Reports over at the Toronto Sun and Las Vegas Sun (via The Film Stage) claim that The Hangover Part III will take place mainly in Tijuana, with scenes also taking place in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Further details are unknown, but Tijuana fits with the debauchery-filled locales of Vegas and Thailand from the first two films. If I’ve learned anything from The O.C., it’s that Tijuana is a very dangerous place for rich overpriveleged white kids people to be partying in.
Craig Mazin, who wrote the second pic, also wrote the screenplay for this final installment. While many—myself included—were disappointed with the copy-and-paste approach of The Hangover Part II, Phillips told Steve that the third film will be a new template and a new idea. Hopefully the third go-around with Cooper, Galifianakis and Helms will make up for a fairly pointless second entry.
When I heard they were making a third film, I immediately thought of a bucks party for Alan’s (Galifianakis) character. Possibly throw in someone like Melissa McCarthy as his bride to be and it might work. I think the two actors would work well off each other in a weird over the top kind of way.
If Mr Chow isn’t in it, I’m out.
Can you really be credited with writing something when you just put a sticky label on the front of the first film’s script and wrote your name on it?
That said I enjoy the characters themselves, and I would gladly watch them in multiple films. It’s just a shame that there will probably be three and two of them are the same.
Why they’re having Craig Mazin return is beyond me.
Craig Mazin returning? That reminds me of the Green Lantern writers working on the Justice League and Wonder Woman films.
How do terrible writers have high-profile films just handed to them? Part III has very little of my interest after the distasteful Part II.
Dealing with writers is too difficult to do on a regular basis. Hire the same ones.
They could have it take place in a sewer, save money on location costs, AND get the same comedic result!
I seriously cannot wait ’till the premier. My husand is from Tijuana, so he probably will be one of the first people at the theatre. LOL
