Warner Bros. has released a new The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies poster reminding us that yes, there is still one more Hobbit movie to go. This poster features a bruised and dirty Bilbo (Martin Freeman) wielding his sword against a backdrop of destruction with the tagline “The Defining Chapter.” Indeed, director Peter Jackson will attempt to bridge the gap between The Hobbit trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy with this final Hobbit film, and I’m definitely curious to see how this will segue into Fellowship of the Ring. It’s kind of crazy just how little enthusiasm there seems to be for this Hobbit series. Each LOTR film was a massive event, and while anticipation was certainly high for An Unexpected Journey, it feels like the majority of moviegoers are turning up for these Hobbit movies out of obligation rather than genuine excitement. That’s not to say the Hobbit trilogy doesn’t have its fans, but on a general audience scale, the passion surrounding the release of these films seems almost minuscule in comparison to LOTR.
Regardless, take a look at the new The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies poster after the jump. The film also stars Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies opens in 2D, 3D, HFR 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 17th.

The folks at WB are also offering fans the chance to vote on which Hobbit poster they’d like to see next, so if you feel so inclined…

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies:
“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
