THE HOBBIT Will Not Come to Comic-Con; Peter Jackson Offers Video Blog 3 as Consolation

Peter Jackson could surely fill Hall H with a panel for The Hobbit at this year’s Comic-Con, but he will not.  Jackson explained why on his Facebook page:

New Line and Warner Bros were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There’s so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I’ve seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con. Hate to disappoint anyone. But something tells me we will be there in force next year.

As Jackson notes, there are two Cons between now and the December 14, 2012 release of the first movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey .  The second movie, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is scheduled for release the following year on December 13, 2013, so Jackson and Co. will absolutely rule back-to-back Comic-Cons in 2012 and 2013.  Probably for the best he focuses on making the movies now, promoting them later.

To make up for the sad news, Jackson uploaded the third entry in the production video blogs that y’all love so much.  Watch it after the jump.

Video blog via Jackson’s Faceboook.  The first two video blogs can be found here and here.

Official synopsis:

Both films are set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”  The adventure of “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

You said it! After the Dwarf images i was a bit dissapointed, but seeing them in action was fantastic, and that final cameo was totally unexpected! WOW!

I didnt even know “he” would be in this film, (even though he was briefly in the book)

I’m officially psyched for these films! Also, great seeing PJ in humor mode, put me in mind of his old Bad taste role as Derek.

I sense a dvd marathon of LOTR is due, its been years since i watched em.

Thank you,Mr. Jackson for making this movie adventure! It is so easy to see why actors enjoy filming with him with his easy demeanor. It must make the experience that much more enjoyable. I would work on that set for free, even be a coffee runner just for the shear joy of being there! What a testimony to the New Zealand film industry as well. they ought to be proud of their achievements. It was nice to connect previous characters to the film as it will lend a “I’m back home,” aesthetic that fans will appreciate. The best part was the end when Mr. Lee cameos. That was brilliant! Whether he is in it or not,I guess we’ll just have to wait and see,but I hope he is! Can’t wait to enjoy this in the theatre with my whole family in SEVENTEEN months!!!
    Cheers!

Didn’t expect another one of these so soon! These production shorts are amazing, and as Billy said, it must be an incredible experience working on these sets.

Love seeing the filming crews in action, but it’d be fun to see some footage of the fine folks over at WETA as well.
