Neither Peter Jackson nor The Hobbit can catch a break.  While the many obstacles that Tolkien’s classic novel has encountered on its way to the silver screen are documented here, we can now add yet another hiccup to the project’s list.  Tolkien fan site The One Ring reported last night that Jackson has undergone surgery for a perforated ulcer.  Most importantly, the updated report claims that the surgery was a success and that the filmmaker is expected to make a full recovery.  However, the incident most likely means that production on The Hobbit will experience a “slight delay.”

In all likelihood, Jackson’s surgery will not affect the film’s anticipated December 19th, 2012 release.  All of us here at Collider wish Jackson (and the rest of The Hobbit production, for that matter) the best of luck going forward.
