Fans of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy will have to wait a few more months to see the final installment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Previously slated to open on July 18, 2014, Warner Bros. has pushed the closer back to December 17, 2014. This robs the picture of a summer box office, but takes it out of competition with X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens on July 18th, as well as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, slated to open on August 1, 2014. As of right now, The Hobbit: There and Back Again has the sole spot on December 17th, but Minions and Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland are expected to open that weekend. Will Gluck’s Annie remake and Shawn Levy’s Night at the Museum 3 are expected to open Christmas Day 2014.
Wednesday, not Tuesday. And it was only a matter of time before the two July 18 films moved.
You are correct, of course.
One of the two films. I guess there’s no way for X-Men to move and this would be concurrent with the Lord of the Rings trilogy opening on three Christmases in a row.
While it always sucks to wait, I’m actually in favor of this. It would have been strange to break the December tradition of Middle-earth films.
what a lame thing to say…
I called this when the announcement was made. The first Summer release for the SIXTH & FINAL film set in the Tolkien Universe? Yeah right….
This is a surprise to no one.
“Whew!”, said X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Inigo Montoya?
Fucking BOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Man, frustrating. Watched the first hobbit movie at 27, will be THIRTY when the last one is out.
This is fucking bullshit
No, you won’t. You’ll be 29.
You are 17 and cannot count? Your comment made my day haha!
I know Paulo. 30. That really blows. Maybe your grandson can drive you to the theater. And of course there is plenty of handicap parking so you won’t have to go very far in your walker.
Smart move, I was surprised when they announced a July release and figured they would move it back to December.
No, you won\’t. You\’ll be 29.
good move, They make great christmas films
You are 27 and cannot count? Your comment made my day haha!
Jeez. In elf-like form, the last 12 years hasn’t even touched Legolas in that banner pic. Although, he did kind of lose that spark in his eye from previous movies.
Does anyone else think that in that costume Luke Evans looks just like William Turner? or to make it weird the guy standing two feet in front of him but in a different movie? Not sure if they noticed and said screw it or if they just didn’t plan it very well.
December feels right. This is one release change I’m in favor of. It’s very much appropriate.
Dang…I’m dying from cancer and was hoping to get to see the third and final episode. I’m fighting hard to beat this but doc’s are only giving me a another year…was thinking I could stretch it out another few months to see the finale. This will make it tough…but going to hang tough and hope I can hold out longer than what they are currently telling me.
