Peter Jackson has posted another production video blog from the set of The Hobbit, and if you’re at all interested in the filmmaking process you’re definitely going to want to watch it. Since the production of The Hobbit is set to span 254 days, Jackson has split filming up into three blocks in order to give the cast and crew time to rest, and to give him time to work on visual effects/script tweaks. The first part of the video shows us the last few days of production on block one, where we see some of the actors doing scenes and Andy Serkis directing second unit work.

The remainder of the post follows Jackson and Co. around while they do location scouting during the break in filming. Apparently the second block will include a lot of on-location work. The cast and crew are due back on set September 5th to begin filming on block two. Hit the jump to watch the blog. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.  Both movies will be in 3D.

Here’s the production video (via Jackson’s Facebook page):

Here’s the synopsis for J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit:

Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, is a peaceful sort of cozy hole in the Shire, a place where adventures are uncommon and rather unwanted. So when the wizard Gandalf whisks him away on a treasure hunting expedition with a troop of rowdy dwarves, he’s not entirely thrilled. Encountering ruthless trolls, beastly orcs, gigantic spiders, and hungry wolves, Bilbo discovers within himself astonishing strength and courage. And at the ultimate confrontation with the fearsome dragon Smaug, the hobbit will brave the dangers of dark and dragon fire alone and unaided. [Amazon]

I love getting goosebumps during a production vlog.

They have the best marketers working for them and yet they can’t advertise on the packs. The only way is to confuse you by changing the names all the time.

I can’t believe we’re returning to Middle Earth. This brings back such great memories of watching the movies and the extended DVD’s huge making-of documentaries with my friends. I can’t wait until the movies come out…I’ll be seeing them both at midnight.

      hahahahaa…. priceless.

To say I want to give Peter Jackson the biggest bear hug when watching these production diaries is a ridiculous understatement! The thought of middle earth coming back to cinemas is enough to make me giddy as a school girl, but the fact that they’re taking us along for the ride for production is almost a good enough replacement for actually working on it. Rock on pj!

  • Come on Son!!!

Get a life nerds then KILL YOURSELF!!

Yeah, some of these Lord of the Rings/Hobbit nerds are really weird, especially with all the dick-sucking when it comes to Peter Jackson, who is by the way the same guy who singlehandedly destroyed The Lovely Bones.

But let them have fun. It’s kinda funny reading how much they praise these Hobbit/R

It’s kinda funny reading how much they praise these Hobbit/Rings flick.

But I don’t want them to kill themselves. As long as they don’t trash other movies, while praising the Hobbit/Rings flicks, I’m cool with them.

Let’s imagine just for a moment that “The Hobbit” is directed by Luca$. Do you think that he will bother with all the filming Locations we’ve watched ? ^^
