John Krasinski made his directorial debut in 2009 with a film adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. The star of NBC’s The Office has gone behind the camera again, this time for The Hollars. Following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and receiving distribution from Sony Pictures Classics, the first trailer has arrived online.

The film tells of a family who struggles with the mother’s illness. Her condition compels her son, John Hollar (Krasinski), to come back home to their middle-American town from NYC, after which he grapples with his own impending fatherhood in the face of a former love, a high school rival, and his dysfunctional family.

“To me, it’s a really honest and real take on family,” Krasinski told Collider during Sundance. “It was a script that I was attached to as an actor about five or six years ago,” he added, explaining how he was then asked to take on financing.
