We’re about nine weeks away from the much-hyped release of The Hunger Games. If you’ve somehow managed to go this long without hearing about the film adaptation of the popular young adult novel series by Suzanne Collins, you can get caught up on all of our previous coverage here. After all the trailers, images and promotional pages, Lionsgate has released one last poster to remind you that the world will be watching. As one of our most anticipated films of early 2012, we’ll be right there with you.

The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in a futuristic thriller where citizens of different districts are forced into gladiatorial combat in which there can be only one survivor. The film, directed by Gary Ross, also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz and will open on March 23rd. Hit the jump to check out the poster.

While The Hunger Games is the first book in a trilogy, there is no guarantee that the film will be a success. For every Harry Potter or Twilight, there is an Eragon or The Golden Compass. However, Lionsgate is banking on The Hunger Games to be a strong contender to fill the current void in young adult movie franchises. Simon Beaufoy is reportedly typing away at a treatment of the second book, Catching Fire, which is arguably the strongest of the three. The sequel is set to release on November 22nd, 2013.

um. isn’t march 23rd a lot closer than nine months. maybe my math is off some where but thats just over two months away

I had no idea March 23rd was 9 months away! Not a bad poster. Not too exciting but its very shiny.

  • Ray

Nine months? I’m pretty sure it’s sooner than that guys….

The Golden Compass production was a disaster from word go, and lets not compare anything to Eragon which was pretty derivative material that was poorly handled. The Hunger Games has a had a very drama free production, and the Author’s involvement was more like Harry Potter or Twilight (possibly more). I just don’t think there is any indication that we should be worried like there was with Compass or Eragon which were not very faithful adaptations.

Catching Fire was my favorite as well, but there is no telling which will make the best film.

The poster is awesome even though I wish it featured more characters.

Um…guys it says nine WEEKS not months. Just sayin.

If three people in a row say it that means it did say “9 months” and they just corrected the mistake.

      • Kat

Or maybe they read it wrong.

Three people in a row? You made your comment half hour after all those so they certainly could’ve fixed it by then. There are errors in articles all the time on any site.

This is the final poster but does that mean there is no other trailer coming out? They’ve only released one but I was hoping for another one.

My guess is that a new trailer will be released next week, the 27th. Lionsgate and Summit both have new movies being released, Man On A Ledge and One For The Money, and to create a better draw for two of their movies it makes since to attach a trailer of a movie that will have an even bigger draw. But, that’s just my guess…
