George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright: that sounds like a very realistic hypothetical list of Best Actor Oscar nominees some year, but no, these are the male stars of The Ides of March.  Femme things up with Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood, and Clooney has himself helluva cast for his latest directorial feature.

Sony has released the first trailer, which highlight’s Gosling’s moral struggle as an up-and-coming press secretary.  It’s clear this is going to be an acting clinic, and likely a major Oscar contender.  Can’t wait.  The Ides of March opens on October 7.  Hit the jump for the trailer and a new poster.

The ratio of the image looks more suited for a UK quad poster, though it has not been labeled so.  Perhaps we’ll just see the middle Gosling hanging up in our U.S. theaters.  [Update: Indeed we will.  Yahoo! uploaded the poster in the U.S. friendly ratio seen below.]

  1. And hello there, Oscar contender thats worth seeing. How are you doing today? Judging by the cast, Id say very well.

  2. damn what a cast!

hope Clooney pulls it off. i hope this could be this year’s Ghost Writer. and writing doesn’t just do it, it’s a mastery of directing that can make this a knock out.

great cast, great crew. it’s all up to Clooney now!

  3. I actually played an extra in this film, and I am in the trailer, during the scene when everybody is holding up the signs and stuff. Hopefully I will be part of an Oscar winning film! lol

  4. after clooney’s AMAZING good night and good luck Im convinced he’s a good director. add on gosling, giamatti and hoffman and you got a helluva film

  5. Am sorry but i cant be more excited how the film was shot in Cincinnati, u can see Paul Brown Staduim. Theres also a shot of the big mac bridge(thats what we call it).

  6. These are the exact same things that were said about that All the King’s Men remake a few years ago so I’m a little skeptical.

  7. Seems like Goseling is on every casting director’s wish list now? I thought he might be the new de Niro. But he’s more than that. He can do mainstream rom-coms as easily as edgy indies.
