First Teaser Trailer for THE INBETWEENERS Movie

The Inbetweeners is a Britcom near and dear to my heart.  For those unfamiliar with the show, allow me this reductive comparison: it’s like Superbad, only with four friends — played by Joe Thomas, Simon Bird, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison — and set in the UK.  At least, that’s the first thing that came to my mind when the series premiered in 2008, just one summer after SuperbadThe Inbetweeners is no pale imitation, though.  The humor is admittedly juvenile and revels in the most uncomfortable scenario fictional high school has to offer, but the show is painfully funny.

The program wrapped the third (and I believe final) season last year, leading into a movie that takes the boys to Malta.  The new teaser trailer is not particularly representative of the series as a whole, but hints at the awful trouble the group can get into on vacation, set to the pulsing soundtrack scored by The Streets’ Mike Skinner.  The Inbetweeners hits UK theaters on August 19, and hopefully will find its way to my country in some form shortly.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

The trailer was first posted at the E4 show’s Facebook page [via The Playlist]:

  1. Sorry but the show is lowest common denominator comedy and that’s coming from a Brit. For a while within the circles of people I know, its almost a joke to even watch it.

The worst elements of a sitcom mixed with the worst elements of sketch/catchphrase humour.

    • @ Sam: You obviously went to a posh school (ohhhhhhhhh!) because for all Inbetweeners fans, it’s what school days are all about: Fancying you best mate’s fit mum, swearing, talking about sex 24-7; not about bringing knives and wearing hoodies to school and listening to (C)rap music. You’re in the minority who hate the show, sorry!

      The Pendulum song is “Showdown”.

      • @Jazzy Jace

Nope I went to a school very similar to the one in the show. Ive seen every episode so I can talk to my mates (who in ways are very similar to the characters) about what we think of the show.

I never said it wasnt about any of those things.
or that it was about any of the things you said it wasnt about.

and please dont put a (C) in front of rap its not smart or funny (like the inbetweeners) and im sure the best rappers write a lot better music than what you might listen to.

I dont “hate” the show, if i hated it I wouldnt watch it and engage with people about it. and im also in no way in a minority by not liking it. Its just that the majority of people that are going to talk about something are going to be the people who love/like it.

Some of the jokes they do are quite funny, its just that if i wanted to see the same jokes over and over id watch little britain or monty python.

      • Sam, the fact that you are stupid enough to watch 3 seasons of a show that you don’t like invalidates any opinions you could have on it. That is like me watching every episode of American Idol before going off and telling everyone that the show is balls; I could have realized that in the first 10 minutes.

As far as serial shows go, I say you wait it out at least 3 episodes then go a season if you are still undecided. But 3 seasons of a show that you don’t even like? You must be stupid.

      • @ Excpired: Don’t know who you are, but thanks for the back-up there. Let’s go back to Sam’s contradictory quote: “the show is lowest common denominator comedy”, not my typo by the way! But yet “some of the jokes they do are quite funny” – I guess that makes him a qualified BAFTA Award winning comedy writer then? Yeah, the fact Inbetweeners was nominated twice for that prestigious award obviously highlights that the academy does like a dirty laugh, every now and then. And FYI Sam, the TV shows you quoted begin with capital letters, mmm? Another contradiction: Little Britain is applauded for jokes about “the biggest cock in the village”, only raises a titter with those who think it’s sophisticated comedy. And when it went to America, they were repeating the same jokes again!

Oh, putting (C) in front of rap was smart (and funny) but you probably admire those rappers who refer to their own black people as “niggas” and wear their jeans so low, it tells everyone else they love bum bandits (San Quentin, if you follow me?) – So yeah, the best rappers aren’t the smartest, are they? Rap music is a load of shit (and if you dare to challenge Jason Statham on that debate, he’ll kick your ass to Mars!) And that’s why Sam, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and the Stones have had longer careers that so-called rappers who either kill themselves or want to be taken seriously as “actors”.

        Go and troll somewhere else.

      • @excpired

I watched them because im interested in comedy and in television in general.

it was popular and I wanted to be able to talk to my mates about it who were into it.

I watch a lot of stuff I dont like, it doesnt negate my point of view at all. and im also not stupid at all

      • @Jazzy Jace

No you were right im not an award winning writer. Plenty of popular stuff wins awards, thats how the award shows can justify themselves. Its a great example of that sort of comedy, I just dont like that sort of comedy. people (including the academy and yourself) obviously do.

I dont get your point about little britain (I dont care about using capital letters for names of things when writing on the internet by the way).

I dont admire those types of rappers at all as they are “crap rap” but rap itself isnt crap. like rock music certain bands are crap but its only your opinion whether than entire genre is good or not.

the rappers I deem the best (nothing to do with album sales) are some of the smartest people and best writers of any medium.

i understand you might not like rap music but i dont like metal at all but im not going to say its all a load of shit as undoubtedly there must be some great stuff out there.

and yes your right, those bands have had longer careers than most rappers, but that has nothing to do with the talent of rappers, those bands just happen to be popular and make decent music.

And im not trolling at all, unless expressing my opinion about something is trolling, and if it is, then so are you.

      • @ Sam: You said “its just that if i wanted to see the same jokes over and over id watch little britain or monty python” – I get your meaning and jumped the gun with my rebuttal.

I’m not trolling as you started the ball rolling, like someone who wanted to start an argument. I had to reply because The Inbetweeners to me, is exactly what my school days were about (and in some cases, eerily accurate too).

I don’t want this debate to become a cock fight of sorts, so we’ll just leave it with our differing opinions.

      • @Jazzy Jace

Hey no problem. it is/was very similar to my school years but in a way as soon as something is relatable, popular and acclaimed I tend to look at it more critically. Its still a lot better at what it does than most shows. lol

Just made me laugh that someone calling themselves “Jazzy Jace” and who inadvertently includes a internal rhyme in a sentence (better than most of the crap rappers themselves, who use rhyme schemes no more complicated than nursery rhymes) could hate on hip-hop.

“I’m not trolling as you started the ball rolling” =]

      • @ Sam: What the hell? I didn’t even realise I composed a rhyme! That’s what you get when you play hrs of Resident Evil 5 on PS3, I guess!

I hope the Inbetweeners film is laugh out loud funny as the TV show is. God knows I was disappointed in The Hangover Part 2: It’s a disgrace compared to the charming original.

BTW, did you like Superbad? I happen to love it and not just because they stuck Van Halen’s “Panama” near the end :-)

    • @Jazzy Jace

Lol i havent played games in ages, I only do when mates want to do co-op, me and a mate played that 3 times in a week but gave up near the start on the hardest difficulty, by the end i was running around with the ultimate revolver and just blowing things away.

I randomly saw hangover 2 this evening, i thought it was as funny as the first and it a way had a more coherent narrative but it certainly didnt have the originality of the first for obvious reasons.

I liked superbad the first time i saw it but again like the hangover (and in away like the first couple of inbetweeners episodes ) i liked them because for once i was watching something where i thought about the people on screen as characters rather than actors.
but the more u watch these things u more you see them as people playing a role and cant get sutured into it as easy.

im not sure i remember the song but i know the band

  2. Yep, Pendulum ‘Granite’ is the song. Haha had no idea this was coming! Awesome.. Inberweeners shits on Superbad for funny.

    • Lol good point, though i think it looks more like the hangover 2 for tweens, seeing as we have seen at all b4 but this time its set abroad.

      • If it Hangover 2 for teens it’s superior since the stuff those idiot do belong when your young, stupid and horny like these kids.

If done right should be good cause I missed that part of growing up.

  3. The picture of the British actor under the trailer looks strikingly similar to Michael Cera, lol. Like a British version of him.

The trailer looks stupid, and didn’t capture my attention the way Superbad did. But since you say the trailer doesn’t relate to the show very well I may check out a few episodes see if its worth the watch.

    • Put it this way, I have all 3 seasons on DVD and watch them every 2 months – yes, it is that damn funny!
