Marvel Planning to Adapt THE INHUMANS

Marvel has The Avengers set for next year, but there’s no rule that a studio can only have one team of superheroes.  Since Marvel doesn’t own the screen rights to X-Men (they belong to Fox), the studio is reportedly considering an adaptation of The Inhumans.  “The Inhumans” were created by alien experiments on primitive homo-sapiens.  The alien race behind the experiments, the Kree, abandoned their work and the Inhuman went on to form a society of their own, which is led by the king Black Bolt and his family Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad, and the canine Lockjaw.  Devin at Badass Digest does a good job of selling the property as “Rome meets Star Wars meets The X-Men.”  Here’s the logline he found on the film over at It’s on the Grid:

Aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.

The project is currently out to writers and I’m curious to see how this will play out.  It would be neat to see a kind of reverse-engineered Avengers where Inhumans is the starting point and then Marvel simultaneously goes into production on movies for each character.

Um…that’s not what the Inhumans are…or about

It’s going to be a hard sell when the main character doesn’t speak at all.

Why would they switch their origins, that’s effing stupid if true.
Inhumans were the resuklt of Kree experimenting with humans eons ago.

Also, they would never get independent films because they’re not as popular individually. Stories surrounding them as a people and kingdom would be pretty cool though. I can see some evil doer trying to get a hold of their terrigen mist for their own diabolic purposes.

I hope it’s true but stay true to the material

    @ Danny Rand
It’s simple… when it comes to Black Bolt, all they need to do is “show” and don’t tell.

    @ Rocky
The rumors are that the Kree made them “sleepers” to fight the Skrulls.

    Great another Marvel movie…

I agree that this shouldn’t be approached in the same way as the Avengers. The characters aren’t widely known (even among the geek elite). Black Bolt’s story would be a nightmare to write because he doesn’t speak. This should start out as something in the vein of the Hellboy movies template– A secret society of freaks that are called upon to save mankind.
The superhero market is in serious danger of oversaturation. If you release one hero at a time, you risk loosing the Audience’s fickle attention before your big loud ensemble movie makes it into theaters.

No, please, no more superheroes! I mean, I ussually love superhero movies. but this is just too much. We have Thor, X-Men First Class, Captain America, Green Lantern and if we survive, next year The Avengers and Spider Man (and Wolverine 2, maybe?). And honestly, some of them seem like they’re going to suck (Green Lantern and Thor… ehem, ehem).

It’s just TOO MUCH. Right now superheroes are making money, yes, but if they make too many similar-themed movies in a very short time, it’s going to explode and we will get tired of it for a long time. I think they should let superheroes rest for a while, because this is looking rotten, really rotten.
