New Trailer for THE IRON LADY Is All Woman and No Controversy

     December 7, 2011

The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer for Phyllida Lloyd‘s Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady.  Judging by the trailer, the movie is about the former British Prime Minister’s iron will to be a powerful woman in a man’s world.  In between, she kind of did some politics, but seriously: HEAR HER ROAR. The trailer briefly mentions her involvement in the Falklands War, but only to highlight that she’s been to battle too.  Not ones involving blood and bullets and death, but political and social ones which are just as bad if not worse.  Meryl Streep‘s performance will likely dominate all other aspects of the film, but hopefully the story is more than just how one woman broke through the glass ceiling (even though Thatcher remains the only female British Prime Minister in history).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Jim Broadbent and Richard E. GrantThe Iron Lady opens December 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Iron Lady:

THE IRON LADY is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

So I’m guessing then that they don’t mention that this psychopathic witch at one time was twenty-four hours away from dropping an atomic bomb on Argentina? How frakking discrete of them…

Yeah, how’s it feel to NOT have a hundred USSR nukes pointing at your head? In case you’re too young, I’ll just assure you that it sucked. I’m sure the reactionary leftists of Hollywood will give her due credit for her part in that, lol. Or her prediction that socialist Europe would cave in on itself, as is currently happening.

i graduated from high school in 1984, so I remember the cold war quite well. That had nothing to do with Great Britain’s last, failed adventure in Imperialism. Of course, now us Americans are the new Imperialists, so perhaps we will top the British.

Another nomination for this lady…. amazing! Hope the movie does well!
