Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine in a Breck Eisner film?  I’m in!  When news first broke that Summit Entertainment snatched up Cory Goodman’s The Last Witch Hunter pitch in a mid-six figure acquisition, it did catch my eye, but the premise alone wasn’t enough to spark much interest.  However, as the creative team started to come together, things changed big time.

Diesel is set to play an immortal witch hunter who’s forced to team up with his chief adversary, a female witch, in order to stop the evil covens of New York City from unleashing a plague and decimating humanity.  The project just went into production and Diesel opted to celebrate by sharing the very first photo from the film.  Hit the jump to check out The Last Witch Hunter image.

The idea isn’t much on its own, but when you picture Diesel in the lead role, and perhaps Leslie as that female witch, this things sounds like it could be a real blast.  Perhaps it’s just because the titles sound a bit similar, but I’ve got my fingers crossed Eisner is running with a similar tone to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters with this.

Here’s the official brief synopsis for The Last Witch Hunter:

In THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of NYC from unleashing a plague on humanity.

And here’s the image Diesel posted on his Facebook page with the caption, “13th century Kaulder... The Last Witch Hunter begins...”
