We're a little over 10 days until David Yates' adaptation of The Legend of Tarzan hits theaters nationwide, and I'm still inexplicably still really looking forward to seeing how the movie turns out. The cast is excellent, topped by Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie, and the director helped make the Harry Potter film franchise one of the most overall satisfying series of films in the history of the industry. So, a moody, contemplative take on the famed story of a man who grew up as one with the creatures and beasts of the jungle seems like a unique enough pick for a new project, and the footage that I've seen has been enthralling.

The latest trailer - or video, as Warner Bros. is labeling it - focuses more on the character of Tarzan (Skarsgard), and says far less about the narrative on the whole. Instead, it seems to focus on Tarzan's return to his home amongst the trees and his ape brethren. This seems to precipitate an interest in humankind's relationship to its bestial origins, how we've advanced and how we haven't. Or it could just be a really smart bit of editing. Regardless, we'll see on July 1st what Yates and his cast cook up for this latest variation on the literary classic.

Here's the official synopsis for The Legend of Tarzan:

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
