Nintendo has released a new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild trailer along with a commentary video that shows Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff from the Nintendo Treehouse playing through some of the game.

While the trailer is nice, it’s the commentary video that’s definitely worth your time if you want to get a better understanding of how the new Zelda game will play. Breath of the Wild’s big selling point is that it’s the first open-world Zelda game, but it appears that the changes to the Zelda formula go far beyond just giving Link a sandbox to play in. For example, in the commentary video you can see that Link can recover health by eating food as opposed to relying solely on potions and bottled faeries.

Another big difference is that your weapons can break, but you can pick up new ones to continue the fray. So it looks like Link won’t be solely relying on the Master Sword, the Bow, and the slingshot to make his way through Hyrule. The creation of a massive inventory along with a rich diversity of enemies makes Breath of the Wild seem like a radical but necessary advancement for the The Legend of Zelda series. No disrespect to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, but neither of those games seem to create the kind of buzz that Ocarina of Time did. They’re well regarded games, but Ocarina was a game-changer and it’s possible that Breath of the Wild could be on that level.

However, the big question remains regarding how the game will play on the Wii U versus playing on Nintendo Switch. This commentary video has the players using a Wii U, so we don’t know how the gameplay will change based with regards to Nintendo’s upcoming console.
