First Teaser Trailer for THE LINCOLN LAWYER Starring Matthew McConaughey

     November 19, 2010

More Lincoln news! Okay, not really. This one involves the towncar. Lionsgate has released the first teaser trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Michael Connelly.  The film stars Matthew McConaughey giving off a bit of an A Time to Kill vibe, along with Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, John Leguizamo, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, and Michael Peña.  The plot revolves around a successful criminal defense attorney who does business from the back of a Lincoln Towncar.  He gets involved with a high profile case concerning a wealthy realtor from Beverly Hills (Phillippe).  Tommy Lee Jones was previously attached to direct and star in the film but dropped out over creative differences. Brad Furman (The Take) now directs from a script by John Romano (Nights in Rodanthe).  The Lincoln Lawyer will be released on March 18th, 2011. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey) is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan.  Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe), a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder.  But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

It’s a great book, and actually a good fit for McConaughey. Hopefully the no-name director and the screenwriter of the abysmal Nights in Rodanthe don’t frag it up, but with talent like that it sounds like it should be headed straight to DVD.

Any fan of the book (like myself) has to be pleased with this trailer. I think McConnaughey is the only guy for Haller. The tone seems right and there looks to be good (anti) chemistry between him and Phillippe. Pena is brilliant casting for Jesus Menendez too.

Day one for me. Fingers crossed that this paves the way for Brass Verdict and perhaps Harry Bosch movie too.

Did anybody else find the overly dramatic stare-down edits to be a bit much?
