Mon Dieu! What could have caused Paramount to deprive us of the whimsical stop-motion animation film The Little Prince a mere week from its intended release? Why, Paramount, are you making us feel as lonely as a tiny price stranded on Earth and departed from his home astroid? Who will fight off the infesting baobab trees? J'accuse, Paramount!

We are left to wonder (Paramount has not released a statement yet), but director Mark Osborne confirmed the news on Twitter, saying:

More reasons that Canada is really winning at the moment. The Little Prince movie features a stellar voice cast, including Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco, Ricky Gervais, and Paul Giamatti, and is (of course) based on the outstanding and celebrated 1943 novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (is it a children’s book, or a window into a thoughtful adult’s soul? The beauty is left to one’s own interpretation). The story follows a narrator who meets a young prince who has fallen to Earth from his tiny asteroid, and deals with philosophical musings on human nature and life itself. Sigh.

Check out the trailer below, which is all we’ll be see of Le Petite Prince for awhile.
