20th Century Fox unveiled a new clip from Ridley Scott's The Martian just ahead of its world premiere tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie stars Matt Damon as Mark Watney, an astronaut part of a manned mission to Mars. When a storm rolls through presumably killing him, his crew has no choice but to evacuate. However, Watney is still alive and now must "science the shit" out of his limited resources in order to survive until help arrives.

Check out the new The Martian clip for yourself below. The film is due in theaters nationwide on October 2nd and also stars Jessica ChastainKristen WiigKate MaraMichael PenaJeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover.

This demonstration feels a little too reminiscent of the whole slingshot around the moon speech in Armageddon, but if Donald Glover says it's so, I can get behind the plan. The somewhat comedic nature of the material still feels a bit off, but based on the early reactions coming out of TIFF, it works. We'll have a full review for you later today but in the meantime, here's Steve's initial reaction via Twitter:

Here’s the official The Martian synopsis:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel.
